Powdercoat or Paint Wheels
Hey guys,
I am posting here because I see many members with painted wheels.... I was going to powdercoat the wheels on my M6 but found out the heat from the powdercoating process would hurt the M6 wheels since they are forged. Has anyone heard of this? Second, if I were to paint the wheels, what is involved? Will the company need to strip it, prime it, paint it and clear coat it? That simple? Thanks.

A lot of the more hardcore drivers don't like the idea of powdercoating because, like you stated, it compromises the strength of the wheels. Granted that a lot of powdercoating places offer low temp, that minimizes the effect, but not completely.
If you are going to get your wheels painted, it'd be like getting your car repainted. The place I know uses the same type of paint as they would for a car. They basically sand the wheel down, prime it, paint it, clear coat, and add the catalyst. |
