LED Lifespan....they don't burn out right?

I bought a set of weisslitch LED AEs and my right side went out today.

I thought LEDs don't burn out? I bought them about a year ago from Bimmian so hopefully I'll still have a warranty on it but it's kind just a PITA to swap them out again. I'll be calling Bimmian on Monday when they open.

As for now, I have one side lit up....not cool.

If I can't get it replaced...LUX is next.

That's what I though...they should last awhile. At least longer than the 8 or so months I've had them in. Sounds like they are defective. I tried wiring them to the other side...no luck.

They should last a while but sometimes the cheap chinese ones vendors sell are just that... cheap.

A lot of the times the LED is fine but the resistor/capacitor whatever box they have attached sometimes gets too much heat and its toast.

If your looking for an inexpensive replacement you should check out www.highperformancebulbs.com

There is a couple LED kits their that are a fraction of the cost.

Thanks....I believe wiesslitch is good LED though. Regardless of the quality of the LED, I know defects are inevitable. It just sucks I'm dealing with it.

Was looking into getting LUX depending on what happens....now what's the difference between 5.0 and 5.1? I think I remember reading that output is the same but efficiency was improved?

Also can anyone recommend a vendor? I'm trying to search but it keeps timing me out...

What it is is that the LED emitter,
Never burns out if kept running at spec.

But if the heat that is produced from it does not have anywhere to disperse it will burn out.

Lux 5.1 ftw, don't settle for less. Cheaper brands tend to overheat and turn off over time.

I've seen some Audi's with their LED's burnt out. The new ones, like the A5 and S4.

Yeah, I think it's the electronics behind the light source that die sometimes, no so much the part of the LED that actually produces light. But you def get what you pay for.

Led's generally last longer than halogen bulbs and require less wattage

Update: After leaving the car locked for a few hours the LED lit up fine. However as soon as I restart the car the bulb does not re-light. I plugged in the OEM halogen bulb when the LED would not light....the halogen lit up fine. I switched sides (the LED bulb) and polarity...no luck.

I think what's happening is that the LED is overheating and when I restart the car, it senses this and shuts off/doesn't light. I haven't driven with it on for a long time but I have a 2 hour drive back to school in a little bit so hopefully it will light up and I can see if it stays on for the duration of the drive.

I think I have narrowed it down to a defective LED bulb. Now I got these bulbs from Bimmian. Do you think they will replace it? Or should I try to contact weisslitch directly? Gotta wait till tomorrow to call...

weisslitch = fancy name for a brand in china called Racing Dash.

Check out their company info. Bimmian always likes to put fancy ass names to shitty products so they can sell better.
"Adds value" so you think your buying something german for your german car.

Basicly why the computer turns off the angel eyes is because there is not enough current being drawed (not enough resistence), so the computer turns off the source.

My cheap ones that look identical to the weisslitch setup, assuming they all come from the same manufacturer in China lasted 2 months and then one side just up and stopped. As indicated above, the LED's are probably fine, but the resister/capacitor box just can't last, especially in the heat of the headlight. All in all, the GP Thunder II's look better and cost 15 bucks instead of $100 or more!

I went through several sets of cheap Chinese made LED's solutions for our cars, at the end of the day I got a killer deal on some Lux H8 and haven't looked back.

I've seen a few A4/A5's around town with burnt out LEDs, thankfully I haven't had the issue and from what I hear, the entire headlamp has to be replaced.

Update: Passenger side just stays off now. However, I don't have a bulb out error now but the LED doesn't light. I'm confused. I have to write a paper today so I don't have time to call. I also have to call tire rack AND bimmian becasue they BOTH sent me the wrong pads for my car....how do 2 different companies send me 2 different products, that aren't the right part #s? Why can't I just enjoy my car without having to have something about it bothering me?

Hmm I didn't know that. Thanks.

I'll have to look into that. Any recommendations for getting the bulbs? I checked eBay but I don't which style bulb I have....'06 E90.

I want to get LUX but I can't find anyone who is selling them for a pre-LCI E90? In fact, I haven't been able to find any info or pics on a pre-LCI E90. Is there even a kit for the pre-LCI E90?

Random....As I was taking out my LED AE to troubleshoot it, I had a laser on my keychain so I lit it through the AEs. DAMN IT LOOKED GOOD! but it was green lol. Someone needs to develop some laser angel eyes!
