Why change you car when you can just change the tyres?
I lived in switzerland for a year and didn't know anyone with a 4wd. They just have (mostly rwd bimmers and mercs) with winter tyres, they always said if the snow is so bad you need 4wd then just stay at home!

I used to have an Impreza with 4wd and the tryes were not as fat as my 335. Everybody assumed it was really good in the snow but it wasn't at all. It was okay pulling off but 4wd doesn't help you to stop. I still prefer 4wd though as it's much more forgiving when you not the best of drivers.
