BMW Alpina

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here but wondered if someone could answer a few questions. I did search around but in truth i dont think these answers would be around until you walk into a showroom to ask someone

A. What is BMW Alpina model about?
B. How does it differ from the coupe/saloon model 3 series
C. They seem rare and BMW.co.uk dont seem to have this on their site any reason?
D. Any site that could give some more info on Alpina?
E. How do they differ in price and how well do Alpina hold their price against other models (Saloon/Coupe).

Thanks

Here's Alpina's actual website that should give you most of the information you're after -:
http://www.alpina-automobiles.com/en/

I think Sytners are the only dealer authorised to supply new ones, try here -:
http://www.sytner.co.uk/bmw/new-cars/alpina.aspx (didn't work a second ago for me so maybe it's temporarily down)
or loads of used ones -:
http://www.sytner.co.uk/used-cars/used-alpina.aspx

They are essentially a thoroughly re-worked BMW (engine, gearbox, suspension, bodywork, trim, etc). They do seem to hold their value better as there arent many around but think they're more expensive in the first place.

The BMW model number is usually prefixed with a 'B', so B3, B5, etc, however they're recently done a diesel D3 (surprisingly titled); not sure if this wasn't their first diesel. Pretty sure the D3 uses the twin turbo 2.0d engine from the 1 series. The B3 uses the twin turbo 3.0i engine from the normal 335i (might have changed with the introduction of the single 'twin-scroll' turbo 335i engine).

They are often automatic (or steptronic) gearboxes with more subtle suspension, oh and more power, I'm probably oversimplifying things here but that's how I understand they work.

There's a few Alpina owners on here with D3s and the odd B3 who will be able to give a greater insight.

Alpina convert BMWs to similar power/performance, as the M division but are one of the few modifiers to be classed as a Manufacturer
