wtf is this guy talking about ? Exhaust question

I'm trying to trade my stock exhaust for magnowflow exhaust and he's telling me - There are no bolt on options because the exhaust Directly connected to cat ????? So can't we just unbolt both of the exhaust by the dp's and just trade ? or am I missing something ?

the stock exhaust is one piece back from the cat. if your trying to do an axleback set up you will need to cut and then weld it on. or you can get a cat back system that will be a bolt on

the stock exhaust is from the downpipes back. he is most likely selling/trading just the muffler section. which means youll have to cut your stock system at the muffler to weld his on and vis versa.

magnaflow (and borla and some other manufacturers) require you to cut the factory exhaust off after the rear cats. factory exhaust is one huge piece

that is, if he is selling a complete magnaflow system and not something his shop made for him using just mufflers behind the axles

If you both remove from the downpipes back its the samething.

I prefer getting an exhaust that just replaces from the downpipes back personally.

That is an exhaust I would choose if I were to do an exhaust.

Remember, there are 2 cats in the downpipe (primary), and 2 cats in the middle of the car, (secondary).

Some companies have you cut your exhaust after the secondary cats and weld on their aftermarket system. (lame).

When it comes to returning the car back to stock at a later date, it just makes things that much easier, and cleaner replacing your own full stock system, with a full aftermarket system.

My recommend would be-


What I can gather from your first post saying that someone is offering you just a "magnaflow exhaust" which will be a couple cans that you'll have to weld them into your stock exhaust.. Here are your possible problems-

MAYBE a small PRO-
1. If you're really lucky if it sounds great since its likely not built just for the 335 so youre using a random in/out generic magnaflow mufflers like they sell for any car... Nobody can really guarantee you on that..

CONs-
1. Performance? Doubt it... I've seen enough people by saving some cash by having some mufflers welded into their stock exhausts and then being pissed by either having it removed pretty quick or if it sounds awful.

2. Problems with Muffler Shops- Their jobs are selling mufflers to people that walk in and then convince you by buying it... Sometimes they'll even convince you by turning your stock exhaust into a frankenstein animal.

3. Nobody can guarantee you without drone on your car... I'm pretty picky with that myself because driving a car around causing me a terrible headache along with all my passengers. I do have a good story about a friend of mine who wanted an exhaust on his 318 which happened about 10 years back now.. We all told him- "please dont do that...." He didnt listen... he actually did have a magnaflow welded into his car... and then the follow day he had to have it removed right away. lol.


So- the last thing line I would say by ending this... "DONT DO IT"

Ok.. I found a picture of it so I can show you-



Ok... Heres how this exhaust works-

1. You will have to cut off most of your exhaust right behind the secondary cats for this exhaust. They'll use some exhaust clamps to install it

2. You do not need an "X Pipe" for an exhaust on your car. X-Pipes crossovers since you have a twin turbo car. You can look at any of the highest power cars since nobody uses x pipes. we don't use an x-pipe on ours. *** X-Pipes DO help on an M3.... or a mustang... ***

3. You already said that you need less restrictive exhaust so we've designed ours so it'll have the best flow.

If you leave the secondary cats in place (right after the downpipe) you're leaving in one of the most restrictive parts of the stock exhaust. Think about a true downpipe-back exhaust or have the muffler shop hack them off and replace it with a straight pipe if you end up going with the exhaust in question.

Forget about an x-pipe in a turbocharged car. We can't take advantage of the scavenging effect because the exhaust turbines eliminate the gas pulses and it just becomes an area of restriction.

i'm loving my AE! sounds great (throatier than stock), minimal drone, and a little more throttle response. and very easy to install, took less than an hour.
at $1800 it is a little pricey, but worth every penny
