Thumbs up It works!

So, I've made some progress today. The mObridge works good except for transfering contacts which I'll know for sure if it is an issue tomorrow. The phone book screen at the CIC shows "transferring contacts..." and it never completes. However, I did not wait that long (about 3-5 mins) as I only have 67 contacts. I have a Blackberry Bold. Other than that,it appears to be working fine.

One more issue which does not appear to be mObridge related. After we've coded all modules, I've lost the mic functionality for my voice recognition option (option 620). When I press the button in my steering wheel, it prompts for a command but it's like the mic is dead, it never "hears" me talking. They have changed the way the Mic behaves in CiC and it is now directly connected to the CIC, unless there is a TCU. After the car was programmed, the CIC may think that there is a TCU and switched the Mic input to it but I'm not sure. I also looked at the Mic pins at the fuse box area and the are only three pins so there were no options to relocate them.

Tom at EAS, Julian from mObridge and the Autologic folks have been very helpful.

Here's what you need to do:

- Order a mObridge BT1000 from Tom at eas
- Find a shop that has an Autologic close to your area. Make sure they have the latest Autologic updates installed. Also, the Autologic needs to have a connection to the OBDII and the MOST bus so make sure the shop has the right connectors.
- code for mObridge Bluetooth (it is an actiual option at Autologic only). You will now see the Telephone option in your screen.
- install mObridge as indicated before. One thing you've got to do is set the PIN using the mObridge update wizard. You need the latest version, 1.1.0. I installed the mObridge with velcro, on the inside and top of the driver's cover right above your knees, close to where the BMW bluetooth antenna area is. I wired the mic all the way up to the FZD and actually took one of the empty factory mic spot and taped the mObridge mic there. I moved the BMW mic (I have option 620) to the right spot and installed the mObridge mic to the left spot closer to me.
- Put the car to sleep (close and lock all doors and walk away for at least 20 mins.

-Come back, choose "Telephone" and pair the phone. The BMW screen will show you the BMW BT ID, like BMW 15777 and if you had the factory BT, that is the BT device your phone will see. However, with mObridge you pair with device "mObridge" and the phone then magically appears as a paired and connected phone in your screen.

That's it. I've learned a lot during this retrofit. Feel free to ask more questions.

The most important step is to code the BT before installing the device, so there are no breaks on the MOST loop. The autologic also has a "force sleep" mode in which the vehicle can be put to sleep immediately.

We're close, it's all downhill from here for finally getting confirmed CiC compatibility in the US.

Thanks for hanging in there, your feedback has been most helpful.

Thanks Tom. One thing to mention is that if you don't have the pre-wiring, you probably won't be able to code the vehicle for Telephone if you're using a dealer. The reason being is that their coding equipment is looking for the actual TCU or ULF module (something like a ping). If it's not there, you may not be able to code the vehicle. With Autologic, they've created a special program that bypasses the ping lookup so the vehicle gets coded even without the module installed. This is great by Autologic and mObridge to be able to do that. Not sure if BMW or anyone at BMW can be that creative or even care.

Very good, well documented. I might pull the trigger but I am in the process of looking for an Autologic-equipped dealer or garage in my area before buying the module.

One question - do I need the FZD with the SOS button, or can I just install the microphone in one of the mic vents?

You need to use the microphone that is supplied with the mObridge. You don't need the FZD with the SOS button as that is for the TCU and BMW Assist. I run the mObridge mic right into the FZD mic space and taped it there with duct tape.It also come with a visor mount and a stick on mount.

Surely there must be one nearby. Have you tried contacting http://www.diag-auto.com? They may be able to put you in touch with a local programmer.

I'd like to use the MoBridge too. From this reading its best to have an Autologic facility program in the bluetooth BEFORE installing the actual hardware for it? Is that right?
