dinan stage 2 - a revisit

not quite sure when my flash came off... probably one of the times I took it in to bmw. nonetheless, had the reflash performed. wow wow wow. car is a beast. I know it's more expensive than all these other mods - but, it's nice to have my coverage maintained and it's peace of mind. anyone thinking about it, highly recommended. let the flaming begin.

I am considering Dinan Stage 1; I am more worried about the wear on the turbos than the engine in the long term. Gonna keep this car for a while.

That's good you are happy with the power. No one should flame you for having dinan, people just like other tunes better because there is more power and a cheaper cost.

Just enjoy your car! You have your reasons for going with Dinan and obviously you had the means, so don't let others hate on you for it.

My opinion, out of all the Tunes out there you will get longer life out of your turbos with Dinan flash regardles of the stage.

Go for the Stage II. I got 303Hp / 350 tq to the wheel on stock with my Stage II on a dyno.

Good to know, thank you for posting the numbers!

Anyone know what the standard loss is from engine to crank specs on hp and tq? Dinan claims 378hp and 416 tq with just the S2 flash alone(no other Dinan bolt ons) at the engine but never did quote crank figures.

15% - 20% loss. Keep in mine the numbers I quoted on my car from a dyno are base line numbers as the environment where I did my dyno had poor air flow. So for me that's like an additional 5% loss. Dinan has a more advance setup with bigger fans with higher CFM airflow closer to real time experiences.

So there claims is most absolutely correct from my view about the stage II.

Yeah, the extra hp gain is nice but the increase in tq is just insane!

LMAO ! Thats why I love this car for with Dinan, the damn torque is just insane and fun to drive on a daily bases.

Cant wait to get 400+ wheel tq

Just got off the phone with Dan @ Dinan, and lets just say I see myself in a possible 07 E92 335i Dinan S4C = Stage 4 Custom in the near future.

Do you have any other Dinan items installed like intercooler or oil cooler? Those are req'd for Stage 3.

Looks like Steve Dinan might be folding under pressure(no pun intended) to produce higher performance yields to keep up with others in the mod market.

The S4C sounds like he's throwing the "safety aspects" right out of the equation. This might be a big mistake; you can get plenty of HP/tq out of other flashes available today in the market place, most that came to Dinan, willing to pay more money, were looking for warranty and longevity. This is where his niche is, and frankly the S4C might be a bit more than our N54 engines can handle over the long haul.

Hope I'm wrong...but time only tells, and then of course it's too late!

Yes I am speaking in terms of after I get S3 then with hope of knocking on Dinan's door for more power.

Currently atm no. I will be progressively adding the necessary parts for S3, and keeping an dyno log for every part that is added.

No, we didnt get that far into the discussion, plus I didnt want to waist his time if it was not an instant act. That will come later.

You are mistaken. This is not something being marketed by Dinan and I dont think they will ever do so. I plainly said to them the key words:
  • out of warranty
  • dont care about warranty
  • when I have stage 3
  • custom job for more power ie S4C

In the end it was said they would need my car for a week.

Test casing for the benefit of future Dinan users, thank you!

Dinan users here will very much appreciate you recording and posting your results after the S3 update followed by the S4C.

And the Dinan brotherhood grows.

Its going to be expensive as I am going to be back an forth between Dinan and Cobb, but I have to feed my addiction. Sometimes I get because I have another hobby in high end performance computer gaming. So I get fustrated of what to do next, computer or car. Currently I am getting another car so I can have the 335i on the side to work on.

Sucks having two hobbies that cost alot of money to satisfy an addiction. Better this than drugs.

Since Stage 4 may only be a software change, maybe you could save money by not buying Stage 1, 2, or 3.

Its too late for that if you didnt notice. If there is going to be a S4C it will require S3

Yep, was on my iPhone. Didn't see you already have S2. Me too, and have decided not to go to S3 at this time. Cost of upgraded oil cooler and software doesn't seem worth the gains (already have the intercooler and air intake though). Will be interested to track your progress. Please update when you have news.
