Infinity Speakers Upgrade

Feeling that the stock BMW E90 sound system was lacking in most aspects, I decided that a full speaker replacement was in order.

The reason for settling with Infinity was that they offered shallow mount speakers (specifically for the BMW’s shallow doors) and 2ohm impedance, which meant they can run off the stock HU power.

I have done the install piece by piece as I had the time and money, but have finally completed the entire install

The front speakers were a direct replacement of the 4” with the Infinity 42.9i
RMS power 50W, peak 100W running at 2ohm.

I am still manufacturing the adapter plates and will be fitting them behind the OEM grills again soon, but in the meantime I enjoy the look of the Infinity grill.

Following a dismal failure of trying to amplify the stock BMW underseat woofers, I replaced the burnt coil NOKIA 6.5” 35W speakers with Infinity 6.5” 5020CS (just the mid-woofer part)
RMS power 75W peak 225W at 4 ohm

and routed to the boot to the Line out converter

where the pre-out signal is split to the mono-block amp and the 4 channel amp.

For the underseat woofers a 4 channel Infinity 475a amplifier was used
RMS power 4 x 75W at 4 ohm and a Starsound 2300 mono blck used to amplify the sub
RMS power 300W, peak (claimed 2300W)

In the boot I used a 12” 1260 Infinity sub-woofer SVC
RMS power 300W peak 1200W at 4 ohm
The sub was built into a ported 56 liter enclosure with the port venting through the arm rest into the cabin, thus creating a pressurized cabin.

Well following endless tuning (unfortunately manual, no osiliscope ) the system plays the punchy kick drum notes perfectly through the underseat woofers, and the rolling base comes through impressively from the 12” sub for an all round much better musical experience. Better pics to follow with a full photo-shoot (any volunteers?)
