Does anyone know how often the fuel pump actually fails on the 335i? For instance, is there anyone who works at a BMW dealership on this board, who can give us an idea of how many fuel pumps are backordered, compared to how many 335i's were sold at the dealership over the past 6 months? I know this would probably underestimate the true frequency, especially since it is probably dependent upon mileage. I love my car, but I worry a little about this fuel pump issue- currently have 6300 miles and going strong...

But overall, dealers still claim that it is a "minor" issue..... but there is a national back order for some reason.....

there was a thread below that had a pole... last time I checked there were 45 votes and 10 of them had problems... seems like fewer than 25% in North America

About 2-3%, based on # of 335s sold in 2006 and # of replacement pumps ordered by dealers.

Just this week, I saw at least five new posts of bad fuel pumps. To think these are just people who go online on these forums, this isn't even counting those who don't frequent the forums. Seems like there are quite a number of them. Its also enough to create a backorder on the new pumps.. go figure.. there's a lot of cars with bad fuel pumps out there.

I've come to accept that any one of us can be the victim of this issue. I'm just trying to look at the bright side...that I hope sooner than later, BMW will actually have the new and improve fuel pumps in stock so if it does go out, it will be only a 1-2 day repair..not a month.

Same here... cause at the end of the day, aside from the bad fuel pumps and the lack of an oil coolers, I really REALLY love my 335i. I've owned a lot of cars in the past, many include countless BMWs and the 335i still tops my list of one of my favorite cars I've ever owned! Once my fuel pump and oil cooler issues have been solved, I'm pretty certain this car is a real keeper for me!

^I have thought it over again and again..if I would ever 'lemon' my 335i, what else would I get? IS350, G37, C class, etc. don't interest me at all.

Before driving the 335i, I was planning on driving my Evo until I can able to afford an M or AMG. However intrigued by the twin turbo'd factor, I test drove it, and ordered one within a month. If my 335i was a lemon, I would surely order another 335i. Everything fits me..the look and performance of the car, the price tag, and the mod capability.

+1! If my 335i is a lemon, I'd be next on the list for a new 335i too! And this time at least I'll know what to avoid and what exactly to get. New fuel pump model, oil cooler, sports package. :rocks:

The 335 is the perfect car, given $ constraints with getting an M3. I plan to stick with mine for a long time too.

I was think about this myself , how common is the problem really, if you asked all of us here on the forums the sky is falling with failed fuel pumps.

I think I am going to set up a survey to see how many people actually had problems

Surveys are set up already with polls and all..

Trying to find out how common a problem is is difficult and polls and posts online are probably the worst possible place to look. The fuel pump part number changed a couple months ago so I would bet current production is better than early units.

Yep your right, and now we have another one, but each are looking at the problem a little differently so it will give us some idea of the problems people are having.

It looks about 20% of the people have had some sort of problem.

That is what we all thought, but i have seen people with production dates after 01/07 this year that have had failures and TSB form BMW said it should only affect cars prior to 12/06.

I am guessing right now they have not figure out the root cause to the problem. They might have fixed one thing and the next weak link has broken.

I only have about 600 miles on my car so other than a defective taillight assembly I am very pleased. We will have to wait and see on the pump.
