A few people ask me about it but I never used one. I'm awd, so I don't think there's a point of me using it unless others know otherwise.

Illegal everywhere in the US except on a suctioned track. But who is going to tell on you? Unless you are in a fatal accident and its your fault in which case anything illegal found on your car will be used to stack up charges on you, I wouldn't worry. But even that, your screwed anyway not like an extra illegal item on your car going to make too much of a difference other than just screw you much more than you are already screwed anyway.

thats a pretty broad statement. you know the law in all 50 states?

its illegal to have one installed on a car that never leaves private property?

I've never stumbled onto any related law in VA and I am pretty familiar with 46.2. of course, I've never had a reason to look for it and a DMV/DOT regulation could be involved.

Even if it's on private property if it's actively registered then the laws apply, even if it's at the track on private property.

And most things anyone on this forum does to their car is illegal.

its illegal, but no one would know unless your the dumbass sitting at a red light, doing a fat burnout with the line lock..
in that case, ur gonna get ticketed for the burnout and even then, the cop probably wont be curious about the line lock.

Thank you sir. Some people don't seem to understand a law does not have to expressly state how a mod is illegal for it to be illegal. You are modifying the way braking system works as applys to DOT rules and that is illegal if your line lock is a solenoid or if you pick up a pebble and use it to block the line.

Here is a thought; It is a crime to commit murder. Whether using a knife, gun, fists etc is not expressly spelt out because there are any number of ways to accomplish the same result. So the law simply says about taking a human life. You go use a razor blade to cut up a guy and kill him, you will be just as convicted as the guy who used a gun. I doubt you will be asking the judge to show you where it talks of razor blade.

Moral of the story, don't ask me where it talks of line locks. If you still don't get it, just call your lawyer explain what you are talking about, then ask him if that is illegal then report back.

your example is erroneous.

in any event, I don't doubt that a regulation may be out there that covers this, and no, it wouldnt /necessarily/ have to specifically state "no vehicle operated ...blah blah... shall have line locks". but I would be interested to see the law/regulation/whatever that line locks violate.

there are an amazing number of "laws" out there that everyone "knows"...which are not actually the law.
