So did they test the cars in the quarter mile? What were their times?

No instrumented tests other than the dyno were conducted. Just a lot of driving/flogging. The VF car burned its clutch up pretty bad when the photogs asked it to do a smokey burnout. Couldn't pull it off. So that's when we stepped (see pictures)

Anyone else think that article is poorly written? This kind of stuff has turned me away from most American car magazines. I mean, you could tell that the writer was making a number of assumptions and comparisons which were not included in the piece and needed to be. The section mentioning Neuspeed was especially bad. Either the guy has inside information which he is not sharing (I’m sure he does) or he is just flapping his mouth. In any case, it is completely useless to the reader. Oh well, another opportunity wasted.

How about these ideas for the next Procede article….

-Fly to Germany when the new M3 is ready and pick up both the M3 and a Procede modified 335 for some cross continent fun. (Dreaming a little/lot)

-LA to SF in a stock 335 and then SF to LA in a Procede modified 335. (The comparison in speeding ticket fines would be worth the price of the magazine)

That reminds me….will there be a Procede modified 335 in One Lap this year? I’m officially offering my navigator services. I’m now an I-Drive pro.

Not fair

Great article in some ways, the best that it got coverage for Shiv and Assoc hard work.

But am I wrong here? Flame me if I'm missing something. Rating a fairly stock 335i against what amounts to a highly modded street legal race car that probably had $20k pumped into it…. seems highly.... LAME.

I have an idea. Why not have a shoot-out between the 335i and an M5 with a N02 bottle?

I really don’t think a person interested in a 335i would be in the market instead for a used M3 that’s been blasted from stem to stern on modifications. The article in some ways, makes no sense to me at all.
WTF?

I agree 110%.

I like the fact that dynos highlighted the torque difference btw. the two.

WTF?
Also, if the article was about showing the characteristics of each tuned example…I would have been fine. However, it was written as a comparison…which made absolutely no sense.

It was obvious that the writer’s single purpose was to appease the M badge fanboys. To call the M3, “the Alpha Male of all 3 series” is hilarious.

BTW...I am not knocking the E46 M3, but just the writer and article.

Sad reality of what must have been available when the article was written. They had two tuned BMWs (completely different), but decided to put them in the same piece. May have worked depending on the perspective the writer took. For example, in one corner we have a fully tuned top of the line M3 and in the other corner the newcomer “average” 3 series with a tune….a bit of David v. Goliath.

uhhh...whatever you want it to be?

It’s hilarious to me because some people are so insecure, that they have to assign rank and gender in order to empathize with a machine. Again, it is a machine....you can dive a minivan like it's the "Alpha Male"...but the machine can not be the "Alpha Male". Got it?
