Muffler Diameter/Length and Tone
I'm planning on having a shop weld on some Magnaflow round mufflers on my e90 and keep the resonators on.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to the following mufflers. My question is what effect is the length (14",18", 27") and diameter (5", 6") going to have on the tone (low vs high pitched, rasp, drone, etc..). Also clearly the longer the muffler the quieter, but how much quieter would you expect the 27" to be over the 14" since it is a straight though design. I'm going for about halfway between stock and a muffler delete with respect to loudness. Thanks! Last edited by Cozmos; 02-07-2011 at 12:00 AM.. |

I'm assuming your will be putting a muffler on each bank?
where are you going to fit a 33" long muffler? yes the 27" core will be much quiter, I wouldnt be surprised it be almost stock levels but flow a lot more.

However, I want a higher note and was curious what effect the can diameter would have, if any, as they use the same core piping size. |

Not too much louder just a bit deeper. A little louder than golf tee but with a lower pitch.
