can't pull headlight fault codes with BT tool?

my drivers side headlight kept going out intermittently a few months ago and has now stopped working completely

car gives me an error every time i start it

tried to scan with the BT tool tonight though and don't see any control modules listed that have anything to do with lighting?

tried things like instrument cluster, central control unit, head up display and it says unable to communicate with any of them

did a short scan of all modules and still nothing headlight related came up in the work log

any help/info much appreciated, thanks

Here is the model matrix Code reading capabilities from Bavarian Technic. If it's on the list then you should be able to read. If it ain't on the list I guess you're sol...

I don't see anything that lists 'Lighting' specifically, but it does show that you should be able to read codes for Instrument Cluster (which you stated is not working either)

contacted bav tech and it's the footwell module that controls and reports headlight related faults.

they also said to keep my hazard lights on while using the bt tool as it prevents the can bus from going into sleep mode preventing some modules from being available

Ah, good trick!

I didn't think that would affect the operation - assumed the BT Tool/software would 'poll' the various modules to read any values.

On a side note, since I had already purchased the cable needed for coding for $85 - I figured why wouldn't that cable work with the BT software? The BT software is a free download - so I installed the software, hooked up the cable - software recognizes the cable and gives details in the 'Tools' dropdown, but kept giving an error that was cable related.

So unless I did something wrong apparently there is something special about the USB cable BT sells for $200+ ?

You would think they would include that in a manual or something....
