Tyre pressure warning light question!

My tyre pressure warning light came on today. Reset the light, checked tyre pressures and found one tyre with about 2.4 bar pressure, should be 2.9. I was impressed that the light came on when pressure is low, I was expecting that to happen when the tyre was flat.
Is this normal for the standard run flat tyres?
Refilled and monitoring to see if I have a slow puncture. Can rft have a sucessful puncture repair? I have not looked at the tyre for damage as yet.
It has 6mm of tread depth remaining.
In spite of various "niggles" with my car recently (punctures happen to any car) I have decided to keep my 330d, as I now know, from this forum, that most e90 are fairly fault free, and the Mercedes C Class I was thinking of are NOT!!

baz,

I had the same thing a few weeks back. I kept an eye on my pressures and it seemed I had a really slow leak.

After I topped the pressure a couple of times and it was still happening I took the wheel off to inspect it and found a small nail. This was obviously the cause of the slow leak.

I had it repaired but I am not sure if it's strictly legit to do it to an RFT but I did drive on it (fairly hard too) after it had been repaired and it was fine.

Typically (for me) after not having had a puncture in years I managed to pick another 2 in as many weeks after that first one!!

I've recently had a full set of non-RFT tyres fitted. I am hoping my streak is over!

My opinion? Get it repaired and see how it goes. 6mm is a fair amount of tread and the tyre should last a while yet.

If you do get it repaired make sure that wheel is rebalanced etc.

Thanks for the reply! No noticeable drop in pressure overnight, so will continue to moniter. Wheel off and inspect carefully I think.

Thanks again Toxic!
