Threaded hole under engine cover
.
I recently had to add a quart of oil. While looking around the oil filter and thermostat for leaks I noticed a threaded hole almost under the engine cover. Am I missing something? Perspective... Close-up... |

That is a vestigial tail,
Or actually, the attachment point for lifting the engine into and out of the engine bay during manufacture and service (when necessary).
Loosing a quart of oil is not too uncommon for this or any car - depending upon the mileage you get out of that quart. I believe BMW spec is no more than 1 quart every 1000 miles. -Tom Last edited by 968tomr; 04-13-2011 at 03:12 PM.. Reason: spelling |

OMG so funny you posted this.....I was under my car yesterday and saw one there too (next to the front turbo) and though about posting it, I thought something came loose.
