Car won't program after radio is changed.
So, I had an E90, the most base model 325i, in here the other day... it had a an aftermarket flip out dvd player instead of the radio...
I replaced a fautly airbag control module, and then sent the car to programming to activate the module.... unfortunately, Progman has this "quirk"... if a module is failed, and can't be programmed, it won't even start the rest of the car. In this case, the radio was missing, so the car wouldn't program. So now this fella has to go to his radio shop and have his factory radio reinstalled, and the radio harness repaired (they HACKED it up), before he can have working airbags. Now keep in mind, folks... this was the MOST BASE model 325i. It didn't even have any other MOST modules except the radio.... but the car still wouldn't program without it being accounted for. If this was, say a 335 with the L7... and you're replaced the radio, amp, etc... you'd have a lot of work and $$ ahead to get it to program correctly. |

I don't beleive you can get a VO that says codes "not equipped with radio". The VO just tells the car which level of equipment it DOES have. If you were to say, delete the line which says which radio it has, I'm betting it would give you an error message and still not program the car.

I´ve been pointing out for several years that you may not be able to program the car - now you have provided further evidence. :rocks:

I doubt I'll know how much he ends up spending, since I probably won't see the car again.
But look at it like this: Labor to have his original radio reinstalled, if he's still got it, is probably no higher than $200, if that.... but if he left his radio with them, or threw it out, that's another $1000 or so. ouch. |
