6FL USB Issue

I'm thrilled with my USB port, that is until it started loosening up. The memory stick no longer fits tightly - it wiggles around loosely - and I keep losing my connection.

Looking inside the little slot I can see the issue: the tiny spring/clips that hold the drive in place are not sticking out far enough. I got in there with a small screwdriver and bent them back out. That worked for about a day. Now it's back to being loose and dropping the connection.

It seems that the metal spring thingies aren't strong enough.

I use USB ports on my PC and USB hub all the time and everything fits tight even after hundreds of insertions.

Anyone else with this issue? Is this going to be the next thing that everyone is comlaining about?

You should get your neurosurgeon to replace your existing one under guarantee, they can do it under local anaesthetic without too much pain. What have you been sticking in it anyway?

I use small SD card reader. It worked flawlessly for 2 weeks, then started getting flaky.

I've just been looking at it again. I'm not convinced it's the plug itself now, since I have it pretty tight. The thing just works intermittently. I wonder if it's buggy, or if the connection at the back of the head unit is loose.

Not sure I trust my neurosurgeon to do this. They probably don't even know what a USB port is.

Sorry, had to pull out the fun part of your post...

Could be a cheapo USB slot I suppose. Could also be the stick itself - don't assume the male end is on the high end of spec. Have you tried another USB connection to see how it fits?

I plugged in my iPod Y cable once... and that's it, so I can't say.

I have tried several - USB sticks and SD card readers, all with the same issue. Another SD card reader fits better, and it just works intermittently. I'm now convinced it's not the plug itself. Maybe what's on the other side inside the console, or behind the head unit, or maybe it's a software glitch.

This morning it wouldn't work before I drove off, then after I'd been driving about 20 minutes the little icon appeared meaning it was working, then it's been working all day.
