Buying Advice for 2008 E92 335I
Hello,
As some of you might know, I've been looking for a car since January and at this point I think I'm really close. Could I get some thoughts on this car-- E92 335i 2008 almost 20k miles, AT/ZSP/ZPP/PDC/ZCW. It's got the remainder of factory warranty of 15 months, and is also CPO. They're asking for $32900, and I couldn't get them to budge any better than $32400. They showed me the service records/CARFAX, and everything looks good. They even told me that they want to get rid of it since it's been on their lot for over 60 days. It's still on the original HPFP. Interior is still in pretty much mint condition. Exterior has one cm small scratch but it appears that can be buffed out and has not affected the clear coat. Originally I wanted to get an E90 but it appears that finding a 3-er with zsp in the DC area is really tough. How's the deal? |

Couple questions:
A - have you driven the car yet? B - (kinda personal) are you financing or paying outright? C - if you are financing have they run your credit? I only ask these questions to see how srs you are about buying the car. If you just walk in off the streets asking the price and trying to negotiate without showing REAL signs of buying they may not take you as srs. Price, miles, condition, options are all the questions you need to be asking yourself. If it has everything you are looking for, it performs as it should, and the records indicate good maintenance history, the price seems decent. You dont seem to be stealing it, but you dont seem to be getting ripped off either. If you havent driven it, drive it. If you are financing it, let them know you are srs and want to sit down and run numbers... only after you have driven it. Once you take these steps, you now have more negotiating power and the salesmen and sales mgr will take you more srs. One other thing, what color is the car? Trying to figure out why this car is still on the lot.

It's monaco blue. I took the test drive yesterday and drove it without the SA in the car for around 15 minutes. I heard no metallic ticking sounds when I popped the hood. I'm paying in cash, but the manager told me I should consider financing it to get 2 years free maintenance... said I could pay it off after 7 months and still net ~1300 in free maintenance after paying around 700 for interest. I have to run the numbers to calculate the interest cost with that deal.

Monaco Blue is not the most popular color, but it is a great color!
I would have to think they are just trying to strong arm you into paying what they want for it. A typical markup on a used, certified vehicle is around $5,000.00 knowing they will be negotiated down to about a $2500.00 profit in the end. Find out (ask them) the original price of the car at day one when they put it on the lot, and compare to asking price now. I bet it has dropped $1000.00 or so from og asking price if it has been there for 60 days. If I am close they still have room to move. It will be hard to get them down to what they bought it for, but if you can get it within $3000.00 of the og asking price you are doing quite well.

The mgr showed me that he purchased the car for 31xxx and the cost to bring it to CPO was just 400 plus some other things. Basically it sounded like if he sold it to me for 32500 then he would be making a 500 profit, and he said he needed to make 500 profit.
He also told me that if I could find a car with the same options and comparable mileage for a lower price then he would match it. I'm going to see if this weekend I can make him go down to $32000 OTD. I think this might be as good as it gets. |

Yea the Auctions have been stupid over the 2008 335 E92's the last few weeks. ADESA in the DC area was really high this past high line sale. So the price the OP is looking at isn't so bad given the prices they are paying for at the auctions. I think the price is fair, but like someone else stated your not getting a steal either.

Thanks for the insight. I've done some more car searching and it seems like the car is appropriately priced/$500 cheaper than normal. I don't know how some of the posters around here are fetching 335i's for mid to upper 20's with low mileage and all the option packages.
