Had wheels refinished...need polished/smoothed, can I fill with glaze?
So I had my wheels refinished to de-curb rash them and everything. They basically just didnt polish the new paint/clearcoat down, well I did what I could before the wheels went on and now they need a little more. I dont want to take them off the car and do them each, so I was wondering if I could use a glaze to fill in the gaps before I seal them with wax again????
The wheels are smooth, but need to be smoother, the wax is only doing so much and not repelling the brake dust/dirt enough. So this is about my only thought for the summer, until I can get a good polish done to them when they are off the car. |

Sounds like you got a shitty repaint....
What do you mean by glaze? And filling in what? Do you mean it feels tacky? And not silky smooth? If this is the case, the paint isn't dried yet and having them on your car will only make the condition worse. BTW, waxing wheels DOES NOT repel brake dust/dirt. It makes it easier to clean your wheels.....that's it. |

No they have been done for a few weeks. I polished them by hand two weeks after they were done to smooth them out. It wasn't silky smooth like stock, so I hit it with some meguirs 205 and did it by hand and it fixed alot of the problem. They are much smoother now but dust/dirt is sticking to them slot more then normal.
I'm wondering about a glaze to "smooth" out the finish a little more. It's hard to explain, but the wheel I didn't have done is perfectly smooth and cleans super easy as opposed to the others. They are smooth, just not quite smooth enough. Not sure if I can explain much more. I just know after I got them they were perfectly smooth so I polished them up a bit and that helped alot. Maybe I just need to do it again?? I was more looking for a solution for summer and fix em up good when I put the winters on.

What kind of polish are you using? The more abrasive your polish is the easier it is to eat through your clear coat. So be careful.
Again it sounds like the repaint wasn't done properly. It sounds like the clear coat wasn't sprayed evenly and now you are polishing through to the paint. |

Well they said there was a clear on it and blah blah blah, so I wont be going back there anyway. It wasnt smooth to start so I figured a mild polish (MEGUIARS 205) So Im looking for a temporary solution for the summer.
I guess I can just say screw it, let them get jacked up this summer and then just have them redone by someone else in the winter. Im not taking them off or experiencing downtime since its a DD and Im not going back to deal with the shop (they have told me thats how it works) so I dont want to deal with them anymore. Im just looking for a temporary solution for the summer to keep the dust/dirt off as much as possible. I know I will have to keep them extra clean. I figured a glaze would help smooth out the finish to make it more smooth which would intern help the wax to stick better and help to keep them cleaner. Thats all Im after at this point. A solution for the next 6 months. |
