paint cracking for a second time after bumper repair - options?
Long story short, the bumper on my BSM e90 was apparently repainted by the dealer as part of the prep to CPO the car. When I bought it CPO, it looked fine, but within 6 months the paint started cracking on the driver's side corner under the tail light. This seemed to be triggered after a car wash. The cracks spread over time and looked pretty bad. I contacted the dealer and they agreed to "re-fix" it for free. They did - all good. Except now the same spot is starting to show slight paint cracking again. The dealer is out of state, and I don't have much confidence in them to fix it right again at this point.
How likely are the cracks to spread again? Do I need to replace the whole bumper to really fix this right? Or can the corner be "repaired" with the right compound and repainting only the corner? If I need to replace the whole thing, can I just grab a used bumper and have it painted BSM (or find one already painted BSM) or will it have to be blended? Anyone have a reasonably priced source for a BSM rear bumper? :-) What are my options? (I'll grab some pics tomorrow when its daylight). |

I believe I already gave you my opinion of this issue earlier today
![]() I still vote to have the entire bumper resprayed. Can you potentially have someone do a spot repair? Sure you can... but I simply wouldn't trust it - especially with what you've already been through regarding this thing. Have it done, and do it right. You'll be much happier in the long run. |

The dealer's bodyshop clearly didn't prep the bumper properly prior to painting. The only real fix is to stip the bumper, prep it properly and repaint. Blending shouldn't be required but any plastic bits will always look a bit different from the metal painted pieces but it shouldn't be a drastic difference.
