What exactly do you mean by "detergent?"

Cleaning agents / surficants? Yes... all car wash shampoo will need to be able to emulsify dirt / debris so that it can safely be removed from the surface of your vehicle. The question I believe you're after is having to do with a safe yet effective shampoo that will clean but not completely strip your wax/sealant and won't be so harsh as the chemically cloud the surface of your clear-coat.

As long as you use a quality car wash shampoo in the correct manner (two buckets, Grit Guards, quality towels and microfiber, etc), you should be fine.

I agree, can you give some insight on the reasoning for "non detergent"


anyways, Chemical guys makes a detergent free car wash: Chemical Guys GlossWorkz Paintwork Cleanser. you can't get it "off the self" unless you live near them.

a) Soap refers to a liquid cleanser with a slightly acidic pH. (Car wash concentrates)

b) Detergents usually contain surfactants (laundry or specialist cleaners) although some car wash concentrates contain detergents

Marketing often likes to state "our car wash concentrates are non-detergent", it just makes them sound 'better'

I think this illustrates the importance of detailers understanding the ‘science’ of cleaning; and to this end it is helpful to have a basic knowledge of soap and detergent chemistry and what is needed to achieve effective cleaning

I use the following:

Wolfgang Auto Bathe....not a ton of suds, but really cleans my black sapphire metallic car well and does not leave spots.

I also use P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo. I prefer Wolfgang over P21, but if I cannot find it, P21 is fine.

Use a car wash that has a pH of 7.5 - 8.0, which should not stip your LSP, that is more important than its detergent content

Pet store. They sell test strips for testing aquarium water. I use it on my tank
