Intercooler for e90 335i

I was thinking of getting an intercooler. Which is the best one for the money? Are those godspeed ones good?

helix. stepped. big. rounded ends for good flow. not much trimming needed. taller deeper AND wider then stock. also probably more proven by powerful cars than many others.

If you're in Miami, I would go to Active autowerks. They have a great one.

Look into AMS or ETS.

If you can still find the original Spearco/Turbonetics/Code3 unit, get it! Now it is being sold under Dinan.

Did someone say in another thread that they updated the intercooler for a no-trimming option?

I would say that the two best performing IC's is the Helix IC ($969) and the Big Tom IC ($300).

I'd go ETS due to ease of install & the fact that I have experience w/their ICs. I had their TMIC on my old MAZDASPEED6. Really helped that car & it was a quality piece for the money.

The ETS fits w/o hacking and is a very straightforward install. After a dealer visit, I re-installed my PROcede, DCI and installed the ETS FMIC in about 2 hours. I could probably do it much quicker next time.

I love my ets. The thing that sold it for me is that it's a really nice quality unit and comes with inlet and outlet tubing that is more efficient and straighter than the stock plumbing. Plus I paired it up with the ets chargepipe and tial bov.

Any opinions on the stet ic? Looks pretty beefy with the additional bracing, dunno if it would be a bit overkill. Right now it's between this and the helix for me.

I have helix fmic and it requires no cutting. It took about 2 hours to install on jack stands.

You know what is a funny observation I've had with the "what ic to get" threads over the years. What ever was recently released is usually the one that most people answer with on these threads. Even though i love my ETS, it seems because it is the new IC to have, most responses in this thread are for that. Same happened with HPF intercooler when it was released.

The one IC that has always been favored since release is Helix. That is truly saying something about their IC's IMO.

OEM fit or better! I have taken the ets out and put it back in as well as the stocker.... several times! The ETS is a quality unit with silicone parts that make this unit easier to deal with than the stock unit.

Question

How about those RPI intercoolers?
Does it need any bumper trimming?
Thank you
