Sigh, worse than the "S430 AMG" I saw the other day. Up there with the 740iL I saw with an M badge slapped on. I don't understand who these people think they're fooling.

I believe the S430s did come with an AMG package from factory. 740il did not come with an M on the back though. Sigh.

I was under the impression that the only Mercedes models with an AMG badge on the rear are the actual AMG models. The AMG sport package doesn't include a badge.

Correct. The AMG package does include AMG-branded wheels, but no badge.

On another note, I saw a Chevy Silverado with an AMG badge on the tailgate this morning at the gym. Some people just don't get it.

I knew a guy who put a Nissan GT-R badge on a v6 mustang, thinking he could act like it was a GT but a little cooler since it was a GT-R badge. He has no idea what a GT-R is obviously.

Hmm, after doing some research I guess you're right. A friend of mine picked up an S550 from the dealer with 4k miles on it a couple years ago and it had the AMG badge on the rear.

AMG package vehicles can come with badging. A friend of mine had a CLK430 with a factory AMG badge.

Previous owner of an S55 AMG here...

This very topic is often the subject conversation on the MB boards, so one day when I was bored, I decided to go on the AMG Owner's Private Club boards and ask someone at the factory about it once and for all...

FYI, you can only register for the AMG Owner's Club with the VIN from a REAL AMG; a vanilla MB with an AMG-Sport package, etc. is NOT going to cut it.

The bottom line is MB does NOT put AMG badging on anything other than an AMG at the factory. Standard model MB's with AMG-Sport packages, etc. do NOT get AMG badged at the factory. Period. Straight from the source...

That does mean, however, that dealerships don't do it all the time. I spoke to my service adviser about it and he said that they'll AMG badge anything a customer pays to have the badges put on.

Personally, I think it hilarious that someone would go through the trouble to be such a poser to begin with, but it didn't stop me from confronting several owners of said AMG badged poser-mobiles and asking them if they had the car that went with the badge...
