I'm in a similar position ......... The car is about perfect for me ....... Has had a large chunk of it's depreciation so I've decided to keep it (I just retired). Am looking at keeping it for about 10 years or so. It's a second car and I only do 10,000 kms a year on it. I expect any serious maintenance ( turbos etc) will only cost $3000 or so if it happens where the depreciation on a new car like a 335i here in Australia is $15,000 per year for the fist 4 years!

Come on guys. Get the warranty (if it's reasonable) but definitely not the maintenance. Find an indy shop to do your maint. The most expensive maint items are prolly gonna be the brake jobs. It's just like any other car, you'll have to fork over some money for oil changes, spark plugs, etc. Buy the parts online at getbmwparts and save a ton over the stealership then take them to your mechanic.
I don't think you two are the types to do it, but I would advise you to learn how to change your own oil, air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs. These jobs are super easy and would save a big chunk. Graystone, find your wrench and tell BMW to shove that maint fee. |

aftermarket warranty might be cheaper. there's no guarantees with any warranty though as they can just say it's "normal wear and tear" and deny your warranty. subscribed to see what people say as my car is now out of warranty as well

When my extended warranty ends, the stealership will never see my ass again. A good independent shop will save you a ton on both parts and labor. If the car is paid off and has low miles, keep it. Maintenance isn't cheap, but its a whole lot less than a new car.
