I actually like this gearbox. It's not the fastest or smoothest but once you're used to it I find that if you are willing to use the paddles on occasion it's great. Not a patch on the new 8 speed by all accounts though.
I found this site.
http://www.bmwlogicseven.com/?p=3738

Makes for good reading and makes sense why replacing the plastic sump with a steel sump makes a difference and keeping the box under pressure is important.

With INPA or ISTA D can you check the temperatures of the gearbox?

Thanks

Richy

I had my335d e91 gearbox service done in Preston I had the uprated metal sleeve fitted for an extra £25 only cost 325 all in they also have the special pump device that gets most if not all the old oil out the torque converter.

My car is a 56 plate and had only done 70,000 miles had it done in December last year ! Very experienced gearbox specialised who buy the zf stuff In bulk!

The difference in how how it drives so many people over look and believe it's sealed for life !

Thats a good read thanks Richy. I believe you can monitor the transmission temperature using ISTA D but when I did mine I followed a guide using a spot temp monitor which worked fine as I was able to get the full amount of fluid in. I also replaced the mechatronic sleeve mentioned in that article however mine wasn't leaking

Great effort on the rear defuser, looks really smart

How do you reset the adaptations in INPA?
Would like to do them on my 325d auto.

Thats good to know. It cost me around £200 for parts so that's a good price. Did you have a plastic or metal sump fitted? Apparently the metal sump is only £25 more also but has a separate filter?

Metal ! Aperently they fit them to the Land Rover's same gearbox as ours ! Got it more for protection underneath, metal is always better than plastic in my opinion!

Yeah I knew land rovers fitted a metal pan but found out after I did mine. I believe the filter is not part of the pan though? I'll fit a metal one to mine in a few years time when I replace it again.

Thanks mate! Look through the options once you have loaded your gearbox file. There will be an adaptations option. I usually use ISTA D these days so been a while since I used INPA.

Very nice buddy. Really liking the Perf diffuser. I'm seriously considering going from my Aero rear to sport/perf diffuser...hmmmm.

Finally purchased a e92 335d so the work begins

Replaced the power steering fluid today as it felt a little tight, a lot better now so thanks for your guide.

I too have faults with 3 glow plugs, cylinders 1,2 & 6. Will check the resistance of them when I remove the swirl flaps to see if its the controller I need.

Quick question with the rear diff, did you manage to remove 1.3 litres of oil from it? I've read a few posts where they just extract 1 litre and refill with 1 litre of new oil?

Yay nice one Richy get a thread and some pictures up!

Honestly if you're going to take the inlet manifold off I would replace all the glow plugs and the controller whilst you're in there. Excellent preventative maintenance in my view. The controllers can be had very cheap off eBay.de

As for the diff I only got about a litre out but filled to spill and got 1.3 ish in.

Hope that helps mate

Will start a new thread once I start. Ordered the glow plug relay along with 6 beru glow plugs from GSF car parts for £117 delivered! theres a 42% discount code for this weekend if anyone is interested (FEB42).

Did your glow plugs come out ok? read horror stories about shearing off and having to remove the head and drill out

Also getting blanks to remove the swirl flaps and replacing all seals and give the intake manifold a good soak in caustic crystals with the egr valve.

Yeah I know. I swapped my SE one for the aero one so know what's involved but just thinking about the costs more so LOL.

If could get someone to buy my aero bumper and diffuser then would cover the costs I guess.
