Hey everyone I just wanted to say hi. I've been lurking round here pretty much since the Welkin took off. I've got 128i that is enroute and I'm pretty sure it's on the Welkin, hoping to take delivery later this month or early july... and if its not well thats will just suck to be with no car for that much longer as I sold my 94 325i...

Anyways you guys have been providing me with plenty of entertainment and information since I figured the Welkin should be my boat...

Welcome aboard Ben, to the slowest boat in the Trans Atlantic Fleet!

Thanks Leslie.

I know its got to go a long way but one must wonder if the postal service could do it quicker. Or maybe a large truck to russia someplace then a boat to alaska and trucks to the west coast. Oh well good things to those who wait and wait and wait.

Where there she blows! Great work everyone! I am getting sucked into the excitement and anticipation. We should all meet in Napa in July for a glass of wine and sign this picture of the ship that brought us together....with a pic in front of our new cars to go with it. Any takers?

Keep those postion updates coming!

In 14 days the Maersk Welkin has traveled about 6000 miles from Bremerhaven to within miles of the Pacific at an average speed of 17.8 mph. So it has actually made pretty good time for a RORO car carrier. Slow and safe suites me just fine.

Ok, she is through the canal. A trip that normally takes 8 to 10 hours, our ship made it in the breakneck time of 14 hours and 58 minutes! YAY!

Thank you all for the pics and watching out for her. This has been fun, but my eyes are crossed from staring at this screen since four this morning. I am going to celebrate with an ice cream and rest my eyes for a bit.

Great job all! Have a good night!

I just got in the door and caught up on the posts. Thanks everyone for the great documentation. And to think I thought I would miss the exit by about a half an hour just after noon. Did the MW stop for expresso somewhere?

LesLazz - Your eyes have to be radioactive by now.

Now - the sprint up the coast.

Info for early risers like LesLazz - It is now time to shift gears. The Panama Canal presented many educational opportunities but now my interest turns to understanding car carriers and how fast we can unload those Renaults and Hyundais. Also, is 17 knots fast enough to get us into San Diego by the 18th?

AWESOME! I figured someone grabbed the pic, so I went for sushi and sake and just got back. Thanks eluder for the pic! We should have a meet up, that would be fun! Well, maybe not for the people is So Cal and AZ, but we can figure something out. Now lets hope this captain calls in his location at some point so we can track it to SD and Hueneme.

If I'm not mistaken, just based on this thread alone, the count it up to 19 for people who have claimed their bimmer.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post the Panama Canal information and pictures. It's too bad the map tracking sites aren't working as the Maersk Welkin heads North, but it's nice to know it's made some progress and my 335xi coupe (Space Grey / Jade Grey / 6MT) is getting a little closer.

Its not that the sites aren't working...it's that our captain of isn't updating his position, but who knows, maybe he will now.
