I bought a CPO 2007 328i just 2 months ago with a Platinum warranty package. For the last 2 days it's been ticking. I was horrified to find out so many people affected by this.
I took my car to my dealer yesterday and got a 2013 5 series as a loaner. Driving the loaner car pacified my frustration with the ticking of my car for a while. Expecting a call from the dealer anytime today. I hope they don't give me the BS that they couldn't hear the tick coz I have recorded on my phone, thanks to the info I found in this forum. Will keep you guys posted. |

Engine Ticking
I have heard the ticking when the engine runs. I usually hear the metal on metal ticking/tapping when I'm driving and hear the sound ricochet off a concrete wall on the highway.
I have 189k on my 2006 330i now and I've never noticed any reason why it comes and goes. I have learned to live with it. |

$4K for a warranty is insane. Just keep your money and pay for stuff that breaks out of pocket. You'll be ahead in the long run. If you're not then BMW's are a piece of shit and nobody should buy them.

I have bought my 2006 brand new and so far combined I have spend about $1500. That's six years later. That includes battery, water pump, coolant flush and thermostat. |

Wthout reading this entire thread, has anyone tried to get policy on their car without warranty? I have an 07 E92 with just under 60,000 km. I am debateing weather to go to dealer now ( just bought then car from them last oct) or even buy after market warranty, wait a few months, then take it in.

I've had a similar knocking noise. I scanned my car and codes 2E35 and 29D2 popped up and it ended up being my fuel injector. I went ahead and replaced it and it runs like a champ with no knocking at all =)

SO finally its been a while since i got the head replaced and i hear no noise at all..i did get the extended warranty for about 2K (it is basically like a CPO now) and i only got it so i don't have to pay a lot and it may help me unload this car off my hands in a year when i probably will bet a M3 or a X5..I was gonna post the list of parts and all but its very similar to what i have seen in previous threads( or lets say i was too lazy to scan and post)..Thanks Every one for helping me deal through this horrible situation and giving me advice...

Very good news. Thanks for keeping the thread up to date. If getting rid of the current ride, my vote is M3>X5, but M3>X6>X5.

Sorry for the newbie question, but my 06 330i has this ticking noise pretty bad. Startup and after I've driven the car for a while. Does this affect performance or longevity of the engine? My 330i is out of warranty and wouldn't wanna be paying an arm and a leg to fix something that doesn't need to be fix ASAP. Thanks!

I am sure this has been stated, but to post it again, the Bentley Manual actually mentions the lifter tick and that it is just an annoyance.
I have the slight tick as well in my 2006 325i and have decided to just live with it.

I'm under warranty still and get this every now and again on cold days. I probably won't have it looked at because I don't trust anyone taking on such a big job on a car like replacing the head for a "non-issue".

Well I know difference between the normal injector noise and the lifter tick, no confusion there. And the lifter is sound is a more louder, heavier sound. Some can choose to live with the noise but as I stated earlier, that sound should never come from a BMW. |
