I bought a CPO 2007 328i just 2 months ago with a Platinum warranty package. For the last 2 days it's been ticking. I was horrified to find out so many people affected by this.
I took my car to my dealer yesterday and got a 2013 5 series as a loaner. Driving the loaner car pacified my frustration with the ticking of my car for a while.
Expecting a call from the dealer anytime today. I hope they don't give me the BS that they couldn't hear the tick coz I have recorded on my phone, thanks to the info I found in this forum. Will keep you guys posted.

How much was the platinum warranty, what does that include?

It cost me close to $4000. It includes pretty much everything except for regular maintenance.

What mileage are you now? Up to how many miles/years for the warranty?

Engine Ticking

I have heard the ticking when the engine runs. I usually hear the metal on metal ticking/tapping when I'm driving and hear the sound ricochet off a concrete wall on the highway.

I have 189k on my 2006 330i now and I've never noticed any reason why it comes and goes. I have learned to live with it.

$4K for a warranty is insane. Just keep your money and pay for stuff that breaks out of pocket. You'll be ahead in the long run. If you're not then BMW's are a piece of shit and nobody should buy them.

4k???? Who would do that and why? Do you think you will have more than 4k in repairs to at least break even ? Really? I must be missing something then.

I have bought my 2006 brand new and so far combined I have spend about $1500. That's six years later. That includes battery, water pump, coolant flush and thermostat.

Wthout reading this entire thread, has anyone tried to get policy on their car without warranty? I have an 07 E92 with just under 60,000 km. I am debateing weather to go to dealer now ( just bought then car from them last oct) or even buy after market warranty, wait a few months, then take it in.

If you have a 335i then this thread does not pertain to your car. This thread pertains to the N52 engine, as yours is the N54. Someone on this thread may answer the warranty question, but you may have more luck on a different thread. Best of luck.

I've had a similar knocking noise. I scanned my car and codes 2E35 and 29D2 popped up and it ended up being my fuel injector. I went ahead and replaced it and it runs like a champ with no knocking at all =)

SO finally its been a while since i got the head replaced and i hear no noise at all..i did get the extended warranty for about 2K (it is basically like a CPO now) and i only got it so i don't have to pay a lot and it may help me unload this car off my hands in a year when i probably will bet a M3 or a X5..I was gonna post the list of parts and all but its very similar to what i have seen in previous threads( or lets say i was too lazy to scan and post)..Thanks Every one for helping me deal through this horrible situation and giving me advice...

Very good news. Thanks for keeping the thread up to date.

If getting rid of the current ride, my vote is M3>X5, but M3>X6>X5.

I've found with some dealers, that they show a fair amount of good faith out of warranty, particularly if you bought from them. I bought a BMW R1100RT from a dealer well out of official warranty, and took it in for a squeaking coming from the rear - without hesitation they replaced the damper. An E46 320CD from another dealer - sold as seen with a 1yr warranty, however I noticed around 2 months later that the warning triangle and firstaid packs were missing. Drove to the dealership and they went to another used car and gave them to me! Can't beat extended warrantly - you protect your multi thousand pound/dollar investment for the sake of around £500/year and get complete peace of mind with it.

Sorry for the newbie question, but my 06 330i has this ticking noise pretty bad. Startup and after I've driven the car for a while. Does this affect performance or longevity of the engine? My 330i is out of warranty and wouldn't wanna be paying an arm and a leg to fix something that doesn't need to be fix ASAP. Thanks!

I have an 06 also. From what I've read it's not really a big issue as long as it goes away. Mine comes and goes. The bleeding process I read about seems work for me on the first try.

I am sure this has been stated, but to post it again, the Bentley Manual actually mentions the lifter tick and that it is just an annoyance.

I have the slight tick as well in my 2006 325i and have decided to just live with it.

I'm under warranty still and get this every now and again on cold days. I probably won't have it looked at because I don't trust anyone taking on such a big job on a car like replacing the head for a "non-issue".

I think many people become paranoid after reading about this issue and mistake the injector noise for lifter tick.

Well I know difference between the normal injector noise and the lifter tick, no confusion there. And the lifter is sound is a more louder, heavier sound. Some can choose to live with the noise but as I stated earlier, that sound should never come from a BMW.
