Got the driveshaft in and tomorrow I should have the bolts.

Also finally decided to pull an old laptop out of “storage” and purchased a 1TB SSD(ISTA was close to 500gb after installation) for a “performance boost”(actually helps a lot compared to what is now old school disk drives (where has time gone!)). This will now be my official diagnostic/coding laptop. It seems to me the software is getting harder to obtain so I’m leaving a partion for all the files in case something happens down the road. Having a dedicated laptop also helps to always have the software ready since it’s not like I need to run regular updates as I would with any current software. I’ll be using it to calibrate the transfer case once that fluid gets changed and it’ll be the first time using ISTA. Then onto to CIC retrofit where the software will come in handy again.

Found the correct style of woven electrical tape so I can fix some various spots on the harness where clip retainers are.

What version of ISTA are you installing? Is it the one with the firmware files for F chassis cars?

My version of ISTA takes up like 30GB in comparison.

I can't say for sure as I intended for it to work with my e90/e82 and the link I used was in the forums here. Basically E92_William added the google drive link for ISTA and stated it is the easiest to get. Download 80GB file and select standalone install, granted I have yet to use it since I just finished installing last night and am in the process of installing INPA and the Daten files. E92_William also stated he needed a 500GB hard drive for ISTA alone however I wanted to have both INPA and ISTA so I purchased a $50 Crucial 1TB SSD with amazon black friday deals.

I have used INPA in the past and honestly remember having it in English even for the submenus however the internet says otherwise and states all submenus were always in German? Can anyone chime in on that?

Here is the thread;

I feel like my whole install folder compressed was less than 500mb. I've never heard of them taking more than even a few GB.

DTML pump replacement on my new E90 328i 6MT I picked up from copart. Now I just need to drive it without plates until OBD Readiness kicks in so I can pass inspection.

I should honestly make a post about this car. 6MT, titan silver with the sport package, single hump. I bought it with the intention of swapping the drivetrain into my black N51 E90, but with how clean and good condition this car is, I’ve decided to swap all my parts over to this silver car for a daily, then swap a 2.6L N55 with a DCT into the black E90. Makes me sad, that N51 has been faithful to me for over 130k miles since I bought it with 77k, but with the oil pan gasket now going out, and getting this new silver E90, the N51’s day is coming soon. Maybe I’ll make a coffee table to something cool out of the short block.

Two of my favorite possessions...

Finished up last night. Took the Z4 out for a test run. New DISAs and with the knock sensors back on line, man did it run so good.

I need to replace one of my DISA valves. I noticed a slight loss of midrange power, and a noticeable surge of power output around 4300 RPMs. Also have a stored fault code that's DISA related.

I have a spare set of functioning valves ready to install too.

I recently replaced a cracked PCV hose under the intake manifold and wanted to replace the DISA valves then while the alternator was out, but ran out of time as I had a lot more to remove (cowl tray, air box, throttle body.) Need to order another set of aluminum alternator bolts so I can tackle the DISA replacement.

The small DISA is a pain in the ass to replace even with the manifold hanging loose from the head. It's attached by three plastic-thread screws (i.e. course wood screw thread), but the screw heads are on the outside side of the manifold, meaning they thread through the manifold and bite into the plastic bung holes on the body of the DISA valve. The difficulty is the screw heads are obfuscated by the main manifold channel and two of the screws are blocked by the throttle body. You have to remove the throttle body to get to the screw heads. Even with the throttle body out of the way, you are still working blind (or with a mirror to see them). The good news is, the small DISA is right behind the alternator and the connector is on the forward edge of the valve body, easy to get to.

The Z4 has little room between the front of the engine and core support but it does not have the cabin airfilter housing (tray) like the E90, and there are several inches between the head and firewall. When I first planned the job I was going to pull the alternator too and go in that way, but there is little room to work that way on the Z4.

The big DISA is a piece of cake; it's right above the throttle body. My old DISAs were still in tact but were oil soaked. I'm sure they still worked but probably not as fast as spec. The engine really runs great now. Smooth transition when the DISAs open at WOT. Butter smooth as the N52 should be.

The N52 is a great engine in the E90 but in a little roadster it looks to be in it's true element. Not sure which to covet hardest, your Z or your lift

What are the dimensions of your shop? I've been plotting and scheming mine for more than 20 yrs now, but haven't quite got there. I'm dreaming of a 40x60 so I have room for all the tools and crap I'll fill it with, and if nobody wakes me up and I dream a little longer I'll also have a little machine shop with a lathe and mill. ahhhhhhhhhhh. I'm gonna try real hard to make 25 the year I finally get it. In the meantime this year I've consoled myself getting something else I've always wanted, a parking carport. The installers are coming Saturday to cover the parking spot for the 325, wife's SUV and my foul weather car the 08 Accord with a 30x25 8' slice of street car paradise.

My shop is 26 x 30. It's an American Institute of Architects certified pole barn design I bought off the internet for $40 (2003). Certified is important for permit approval. The main section where the lift is 18 x 26. The wing is 12 x 26. The plans call for two wings off each side, but I didn't build the second wing. There is a loft above the 18 x 26 section. Built in 2004 it cost me $32K. The roof is steel and the walls are OSB covered with Hardie Plank concrete-fiber siding. Framing is pressure treated poles. We have a local wood pressure treated wood manufacturer, so all the poles were fresh from the treatment. Now because I was putting the lift in, which needs 12 feet ceiling height and 4" minimum 3,500 PSI floor, I spec'd the concrete floor at 9" with 4,500 PSI. Under the lift it's a trough of 12" of concrete all the way across the 18' span and 3' wide. Of course it's rebar'd and wire mesh. The floor is way over built. But you can only pour it once... the lift installer was drilling the holes for the base plate anchors. Expecting to drill through the floor, he kept drilling, stops and looks at me. I just smiled and said "it's 12 inches". He just shook his head and laughed. We set the ceiling at 14' just to give the lift a bit more verticle room. I didn't fuck around with it.

I built my own car port with a gravel floor. Another pole structure with plans out of my head. It's 18 x 26. I fit 3 cars in it and can fully open the drivers door on each vehicle. Nice about a car port is washing cars out of direct sunlight.

I've looked into both pole barns and steel buildings but haven't got to the settling on one yet. Any thoughts pro/con for either or? I know it's going to need a thick floor for the lift, 12" is certainly thick 20 yrs ago I would have thought about trying to build it myself but now my body says no but my wallet says yes so I'll watch. I expect them to have this carport planted in a couple hours on Sat.

I think insulated steel is a good way to go. I had an HOA situation... Mrs. Efthreeoh 🤣🤣🤣. So, I had to stick build it, steel wasn't on her approved materials list 😂. But really a 6" 4,500 PSI with rebar is all you really need. I had a guy build the shop but I did all finish work. I did all the electrical including the breaker panel, aught wire up the outside for the electical hookup, meter box, and ground rod (that was fun). I installed the original heater (green house style) including the gas piping between the tank and unit. I helped with the lift install, installed the air compressor and wired both (240V).

When I did a cooling system refresh on my daily driver 2010 E91 two years ago, I went with an CSX OE style radiator (plastic side tanks) but I will be going with the CSX all-aluminum radiator on my 2011 128i when I do it (sometime between now and spring). I watched for sales and picked it up from Turner in July for about $340 (plus I had an $80 credit from a previous return so it was a reasonable deal). I've tracked the 128i once and may do so again and I plan to keep it for a good while so went with the all-aluminum. Well, and it's just cooler looking . . .

Are you confusing it with INPA? I don't understand how ISTA can be that small considering it contains the entire service manual.

Great choice. The CSF Alunimum one has been serving me great since I installed it on Monday. Coolant temps have dropped a lot. I'm really glad I will never have to change the radiator on this car again since it wasn't the easiest job out there and the chance of breaking something else while replacing it is quite high.

Came out of work today to find my windshield has a nice growing crack along the A-pillar. Insurance will cover it but who is the preferred installer. Last Windscreen I did was in my E30M and that was OEM glass and I wanted to see the frame before a new one was bonded in. E30'S suffer frome poor installation and they rust out under the windshield.

E91's?

I used Safelite last year. I wanted OEM glass but received an exorbitant quote from the dealership. Safelite can get you OEM glass but the scheduling process had to be done partly online and partly over the phone. The upcharge for OEM was reasonable and the whole job ran me less than $500. I was satisfied with the workmanship.
