Didn't do this by myself. The exhaust and heat shields needed to be dropped. We also removed underbody panels. No need to lower the subframe though.

I get more whine inside the cabin over the softer stock ones.

TorqueAddict went for a drive in my car this past weekend. Perhaps he could chime in with his thoughts too.

Thanks for the feedback and tip on the bushings. I'll lathe a set and try them out when I do my swap. I assume the steel cores are the same as stock. It looks like my diff-swap will take 3-4 weeks total with shipping and my labor.

Good stuff man. I can also e-mail you torque specs and parts numbers for the bolts I either changed or re-torqued during the differential swap.

Mainly that MFactory seems to be taking much longer than originally stated and the 2.81 differential seems to be giving them issues and is on their back burner.

Yup, you can 'feel' the power being put down, as the car tries to straighten itself out of a curve. LSD is next on my mod list.

Took me a long, long time to duplicate this same test with the Quaife LSD. But here it is, fresh from this morning. This shows the LSD spinning both wheels, where as the OEM eLSD, in any setting, would not.

That is great video illustration there TDI. First thing I noticed with the Quaife, and it's even more amplified in wet or snow conditions, is how much easier it is to lose control. What I mean is with both rear tires providing power, you really have to know what you're doing powering out of turns. The open diff is a lot more forgiving and better suited for safer/less experienced drivers.

Your traction control doesn't not bias power; all it is doing is apply load to the spinning wheel (ie. activating your brake).

The "eDiff" in your BMW is not really an Electronic Differential (look up a proper eDiff like the one in a Ferrari), it's just an Electronic Brake + Ignition Retard.

What biases power is your actual Diff, but as you have an open diff, that is why power is not being sent to the other wheel as the wheel in the air (that has the brake applied) is still the path of least resistance.

This is where a Helical LSD works hand-in-hand with the Traction Control, as it will bias the power for you.

Also wondering what it's worth with regard to 60 ft times on a fully mod'd D.

Assuming I have enough power, can I run 11's on a 16" or 17" drag radial without an LSD?

I would say yes if for no other reason than that you could reliably heat up both slicks/DRs instead of ending up with some runs with one wet tire.

What you can run depends a lot on your mods. Obviously, well heated DRs or slicks mean less power needed to hit your goal. Kind of a pricey item to get what you need, but drag racing isnt cheap and its at least something you will enjoy off the track.

I am out of warranty and into extended warranty. I am pretty sure the diff will pass the dealership sniff test.
