ST build continued

Week 5

Well another week and another update.... so what has happened since last week... well the answer is NOTHING !!!!! Big thanks to DrJ who swung by the workshop to check on progress and snapped these pics. In short seems like lots of other cars are being worked on and pushed out the door, while SPCGRY sits.... Clearly looking unlikely that it will be ready by end of week 8

Will report back next week.. hopefully with something to report

Mate stop winging hahaha . I didnt have a car for 12 months due to fuck ups, parts not arriving on time, work not being completed. The list goes on. I reckon at least 12 weeks min.... It sucks not having a car, trust me I know and the extra cost of rental cars etc. I should of bought a run around and be done with it. I can report back that mine now is a weapon to drive.

1st thing a shop does it take the car apart. They do this so you can't drive it out of there after 8 weeks of no real work being completed. Just my experience of reading online builds. They take it apart so you are less likely to have it towed away.

Not to be a party-pooper, but big builds like this always take more time at a workshop. They have bills to pay and have to work on other customers cars while they wait for parts to arrive.

Also, a good workshop will take their time to make sure everything is done properly because they don't want to be taking it apart a second time if something small was missed.

It's a long wait but will be worth it in the end.

The complaints are well deserved. The fabricator has literally done nothing since day 1, apart from getting Streamline Automotive to strip the turbos off.

Until week 4 none of the parts had been ordered for the build by the fabricator and Socket ended up doing that himself. We had no cylinder head turbo flanges and with limited time, we had to cut up a spare set of stock turbo manifolds ourselves and send it to Newcastle.

There's a big difference between a workshop taking their time and a workshop doing zero work on a car.

Shame to hear this.

All they need is the flanges, turbo, and wastegates. They can then fab the manifold etc. from that.

Also, to the guy above I wouldn't call this a big build. It's just an inline 6 turbo manifold. No built engine, No built head, only a single manifold, not going for unheard of power or a 1/4 mile time that has never been achieved, etc. It's not like this is uncharted territory for the platform or they are doing much 'new' that has not already been done before. I agree it's good to take their time but I don't think they are. Shops seem very good at taking cars apart but it takes them orders of magnitude longer to deliver anything.

They're just cast iron exhaust housings that have very minor surface oxidation from sitting on the shelf not in plastic....

They'll be heat coated before use anyhow

The aforementioned pics may be a tad confusing to some, but the plan is to mod the engine mount bracket and coolant pipe to aid with clearance for a BM turbo setup.

Work begins this week after 4 weeks of stalemate whilst the fabricator works on evo's GTR's and setting up his new workshop and CNC 3 axis milling machine.. Sucks that no action has been started on Sockets car but regardless of the workshop there are always delays

Week 6

Well another week and another update.... Once again nothing to report... Despite being told that manifold and turbos would be in this week, nothing has been done.

Next weekend is the Easter long weekend, fingers crossed DRJ will have a chance drop in and have better news

Yep is a pain. Would be nice if the shop was actually working on it.
