compact, can use all the same relative equipment (i.e. speedlites, lenses, triggers, slaves, etc etc), shoots video, simplicity of not having to buy a certain lens to get a certain effect (i.e. having to go out and buy a 200mm zoom lens for a dslr vs having built in zoom on the camera body.

haha yea digital zoom is a lot different then actual zoom, but its just so dam handy. I mean if you want to snap a photo and need zoom, sometimes you dont have time to whip out your camera bag and swap lenses.

G10 = small and compact DSLR minus a few function and features. If you need the extra control that a DSLR offers, opt for that. But for most, a G10 is more then capable of everything they will want it to do.

ur not going get same quality as an independent lens but it comes close.
the DSLR chips have better processing, it'll handle low light way better, than G10. Trick I've been doing for low light is/are Tripod shots at ISO 80 w/ a 10/15 sec exposure. Longer exposure will suck in all available light while maintain all the true blacks.
