So I dont have time to read through 13 pages of this but if I run methanol and have a jb3 18ohm what would I need to pay to get the intro procede and run meth?

Do I send in my jb3 or what?

If you bought your jb3 new... you will get a $50 credit.. so basically it will cost the intro price of $645 to get the meth map... meth map is $50 additional, and you save 50 for handing in the jb3...

I would just get the professional one for 795 since your running meth and not the average user.

This is certainly a interesting market. At one side we have the competition saying we charge too much for our hardware because it is just a box of resistors etc. At the other end we have those who see the value of the product as the continuous free upgrades we provide (which are the major cost of our business), and having little to do with the hardware cost.

The thing to note here is that we cannot afford to continue to offer free upgrades unless we can sell volume to cover our costs. Without sales, we make no money, so have to move onto other markets and the free upgrades stop. We are just doing our best to provide a feasible business model that keeps us doing what we enjoy so much and keeps our customers happy.

* If you have a Procede and you happy with it, keep it as is. it is unlocked and you have lost nothing.
* If you like the free upgrades, continue to upgrade for free. The only thing you lose is that if you sell the unit at some point, it is now locked which will have an undetermined effect on resale when most people never sell anyway.
* If you are in the market for a Procede, you now have more choice to save some $$$ and pay for what features you need and not those you don't need. We hope this will make the product more appealing in some areas of the market so we can sell more to continue development and keep all our free upgrading customers even more happy.

I see some people not liking the change, but the alternative to those people would be that eventually there would be no more upgrades. Since rev 2 was released 2 years ago, there have been no upgrade costs to anyone. But in this time the product has improved out of sight. We want to keep doing this, but have to continually adjust the business model to suit a competitive market place.

The real order is placed when we transfer the info from the online order form to our sales computers. And, of course, we will double-check everything before punching in the final amount and charging you. I'm currently working on the glitch though... hope to have it sorted out by tomorrow!

Placed my order, but the glitch was still there, hope you sort it out and I get my difference refunded. If you need my order number just PM me.

woah woah woah - even those of us who have an "unlocked" v4, if we want to continue receiving the free upgrades we were promised when we bought the product, our units will be castrated during the v5 migration?

that would be like buying the home and student version of MS office, which can be used on 3 systems - only to find out that when service pack 2 rolls out, all of a sudden you can only use it on one system...

pretty whack

I've seen a few people try to compare this situation to Microsoft licensing, on this site and the other sites. Technically, you're breaking the EULA when someone sells a copy or the original copy (yes, look it up), with or without license. Once you buy a product you're not suppose to sell it. Granted that doesn't stop people from doing it and its hard to police that. Vishnu will have the same problem Microsoft and every other hardware or software company has to deal with when they license protect their product. You can do a lot to stop Joe Shmoe but the smart guys are always going to find a way to defeat the licensing schemes.

Also, you shouldn't go into a tune thinking about its resale value. The understanding is that any money vested into a car is wasted money. We try to recoup as much as possible but at the end of day, the resale value should not factor into it.

I do think Vishnu should have implemented a 3 vin memory. That way people getting new cars can do it without Vishnu intervening and the resale value won't take such a big hit.

just my 2cents

Regards,
Jose

1. They give you a new free license if you get a new car

2. As for resale value taking a hit, there is nothing they can do about that. In fact, the problem is that they aren't getting anything when people sell their tunes, and with free upgrades / $50 upgrades they need to be able to pull in money some other way to be able to keep funding their R & D.

I'm not upset with the new business model at all. In fact I'm a little relieved that these guys should be able to get a little more revenue in a fairly painless way. Modifying my car is definitely a hobby. The investment / resale value has played virtually no role in my decision to spend money on any of my hobbies. I like many others on these forums have watched the value of my house and stock investments decline by hundreds of thousands of dollars in a relatively short period of time. What do I care about $150?

More important is the hope that Vishnu will continue their fine work providing new features and enhancing existing ones.

The alternative is that updates will be stopped altogether. This is bound to happen at some point but hopefully this change pushes that sad day further into the future.

I purchased my tune used. The guys at Vishnu gave me excellent support by quickly responding to all my silly, newbie questions and sending me emails convincing me that all was well when I had some undue concern that something was wrong with the tune or my car.

I'm not sure that the economics support free upgrades as new sales are cannibalized by used sales and Vishnu covers the incremental costs of supporting new customers that purchased a used product.

Software was mentioned as an analogy. Try getting support from the expert resources that really designed and have full understanding of how the software really works from Microsoft. Plus Vishnu adds significant features and not just updates to correct bugs and issues like service packs typically do. I deal with enterprise software that requires 20% of the initial purchase annually as a maintenance fee and we still have to pay for upgrades.

To me this is a win for Vishnu and their customers including the ones that are bitching and moaning about the change. We would all lose more money in resale value if updates were discontinued altogether. Not to mention the enjoyment of actually using these substantial enhancements.

yeah you are definetely ok but you need meth otherwise forget about the upgraded turbos.
if you want to push big power you need high octane.
