That was the initial idea, but after talking it over with my dad we decided the best plan of action was to double up my payments, own in 1/2 the time, which should coincide with me finishing grad school...be debt free and able to get a much better job and hopefully much better house.

So the question comes, what is better? The car I'm looking at has 35k less miles, same price I'm paying now, is more reliable, will have higher resale, and (IMO) fun enough as it is (I'm sure I'll do a few mods) to stop dumping money into my car (which don't get me wrong, I love it) to drive the way I want.

Also...trade-in value on my car is about the same as the buyout...

Seems to make sense. But between now and the next year or so is the best time to buy real estate. Not sure how long grad school will take? I'd be buying property right now if I could and didn't have two overpriced piles of crap

All done...scheduled to get officially "appraised" tomorrow...going with my winter tires on purpose so I can see what they say about having the springs...if they make a huge deal of it and will give me more than $240 more for it I will schedule VS to change them back along with mounting my OEM tires

Not now. Will cost you so much money if it breaks down. You have a great car with the perfect warranty. Down the road? Yes

Yea, now is the time to buy, and these deals likely won't be around in 2 years, but even with a much more modest car payment it's pretty close given the variables we have agreed must be met for a starter home/investment property. Either way, my dad has mentioned given the right place, he would buy now, in my name, and sit on something if it was really the perfect place, and subsidize me renting it from him, and turn the mortgage over when I could afford it

well even if you are right....its not like prices are going to rocket up so there's time

remember, in normal environments (read - pre boom), real estate is a poorly performing asset

True but I don't think you are going to see these types of deals. There will always be good deals but it is crazy right now
