My assumption is that like everything the government promotes this will be a dumpster fire.
There will be more inventory than buyers. The depreciation on EV's will cause the companies to have major loses on the leases they hold when EV's are turned in. Anyone want to bet on EV incentives for new and used EV's?

EV's may be right for a lot of folks but overriding the free market will do a lot of damage to a lot of folks and the industry in general. The auto companies are not stupid and are hedging their bets in private. The ESG component of this is enormous. Car companies run on cash.

Without making it political I can't think of a single time that a government has managed any project large or small that was done on time and on budget. I think this will fail but only after trillions are spent, jobs lost, inflation driven much higher and the cost of electricity will likely double.

"Prepare Generators": Largest US Power Grid Declares Emergency Alert For Second Day
.
PJM Interconnection LLC declared another Energy Emergency Alert Level 1 through Friday. Excessive heat advisories and warnings cover much of PJM's grid across 13 states, from Illinois to New Jersey, with over 65 million customers. The latest National Weather Service data shows that advisories and warnings for heat plague most of PJM's grid. PJM has issued these alerts to help prepare generators for the onset of intense heat," the grid operator said. This is the second day the largest US grid operator declared a level one emergency. On Thursday, PJM's preliminary peak load was around 148,000 megawatts and is forecasted to peak at around 155,000 megawatts later on Friday. Quick Unplug all your EVs...

PJM expects hot weather to persist through Saturday. Bloomberg data shows average temperatures across the Lower 48 are expected to peak on Saturday and possibly revert to 5-10-30-year averages. Also, notice how the yearly temperature averages have plateaued for the Northern Hemisphere summer.

Never said it wouldn't happen only that it is being over hyped.

Ford pushes back EV target, warns of wider losses due to slower-than-expected adoption

Ford also said it now expects its EV business unit, Ford Model e, to post an operating loss of about $4.5 billion this year.

In a statement, CEO Jim Farley argued that the more gradual ramp-up of electric vehicle production could be a boon for Ford.
Ford Motor said Thursday pushed back production targets for its electric vehicles, citing slower-than-expected adoption.

From this we will see a lot of new pushing of household energy conservation efforts, many of which will be subsidized. Things like new windows, wall insulation, appliances, etc. It will be justified by "we don't have the electric supply to serve peak or prolonged high loads."

This will be coupled with the push to adopt EV's, which are already heavily subsidized.

Question: Don't EV's use electricity too? Don't they use a lot of it?

Strange times we live in... Mandating and subsidizing people buy to carts during a horse shortage.

And before we blame this on some one-off heat wage, recal this just 7 months ago:

VALLEY FORGE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Frigid temperatures are having an effect on the power grid.

PJM Interconnection, the local electricity grid operator, is asking customers to conserve energy starting Saturday at 4 a.m. through Sunday at 10 a.m.

Electricity use right now is higher than usual and officials say conservation is important to prevent any power outages.

Agreed. Watch California. It's already happening there with draconian building codes not to mention their watching the water (e.g. CA toilet tank flush volume mandates) on top of CA's presently smoldering grid. There isn't enough Li in the world to convert the vehicle fleet to EV or even hybrid, nor ten year olds to mine the Li, and 'they' know this. IF the fleet of vehicles presently on the road in the United States were to be converted to EV, the U.S. would need to build and bring online one new coal fired power plant per week - just like China did in the late 2010s, and that would be just to keep up with demand for power. But could the current American grid and its decrepit infrastructure endure the increasing peak power demand loading? Answer = No. Their agenda is far more nefarious IMO. And who would pay for these new power plants and new infrastructure (grid)? And where would all the coal come from?

Once CBDCs, Social Credit scores, and WooFlew passports are combined with "the internet of things" (google it) a person won't even be able to charge their EV or flush their toilet, nor even buy meat IF they're a so called non conformist and their social credit score isn't up to snuff (and who will be doing the judging of citizens). EV's are a vehicle (pun) towards much more social control and prohibiting citizens movement - aka being free to move and travel on the land (anymore). The very word government is derived from two words; governus (means control) and mentos (means mind) - the combination means "mind-control". Ah now we see it.

People use EVs here in South Carolina all summer long. They also take them to the car wash quite often.

Who all still sees folks with masks? Masks and gloves?

It's almost unbelievable to witness but apparently a portion of our citizens have lost their cognitive reasoning altogether and roughly half have been repeatedly bludgeoned so frequently by Mr. TV and supposed fact checkers that they're basically numb too.

Continued "I still trust them" could be the final piece of corn circling the drain for many.

Ooof...that hurts. Earlier this year the estimate was a $3bill loss for 2023, now a 50% increase.

GM is in a similar situation, already have announced multiple delays.

Sky broiler is in summer ON position.

Things to remember, especially when it's the hottest in 12,000 decades and the ground is smoking and stuff:

1. Place a mask for mouth and nostril coverage over face. Never mind that it makes it harder to breathe.
2. Wear a sweater or coat. Never mind that you feel fainty.

These tips should help you in these historic times.

Biden admin proposes 58 mpg fuel efficiency standard, sets target date at 2032

The Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday announced a proposal to require raising fuel economy standards to 58 miles per gallon.

Specifically, the proposal aims for a respective 2% annual increase for passenger cars’ and a 4% increase in light trucks' Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for 2027-2032 models. It will also require 2030-2035 model "heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans" to increase fuel efficiency by 10% per year.

"If finalized as proposed, the updated standards would save Americans hundreds of dollars at the pump," NHTSA said in a press release, "all while making America more energy secure and less reliant on foreign oil."

I'd love to see it, but my fear is how much will it cost against the savings at the pumps. And why bother if ICE will be verboten by 2035? Is it possible that governments are recognizing the 2035 mandate isn't feasible, asking for a friend.
