A dime? We all kept a piece of wire about 4" long in our wallets, if you put the wire through one of the receiver holes and touched the other end to metal case of the phone you would get a free call.

On Halloween you walked around your own neighborhood with just your friends and it was after dark.

Wifey and I just came back from our usual walk out of our neighborhood and across to the McMansion neighborhood. Holy Shit. The streets were lined with cars and SUVs and there was a steady line of more traffic weaving through them with some large ATVs mixed in. Not sure how that's safer than having kids walk. I doubt more than 25% of those people were from that neighborhood. I guess it's a thing now to pile the kids into the family vehicle and drive them around to as many neighborhoods as possible?

Ha....you know you're really getting old......... when you don't drive at night. Hopefully I've got decades before that. However, that's why I live in the city - so I can walk or bike almost anywhere.

Not only did you correctly identify the device, you were also able to put it in context of a period-correct colorized talkie!!!

I'll get off your lawn now.

Yeah, very effective when the movie went from black & white Kansas to Technicolor Oz and then back again.

You should mattress shop. Wirecutter just did a whole thing on mattresses, very informative. Also you might think about pillow;, as I get creakier I find that I actually care about them where I never did before.

My commitment was more for humor than my personal life experience. I have a memory foam mattress and very comfortable goose down pillow. I don't compromise on pillows anymore. My latest pair cost $300!

You know your old (and a Pennsylvania resident) if you remember the bars not selling beer or liquor until the voting polls closed on election days...Bars would put sheets over the liquor bottles and paper cups on the beer tap handles.
