No, had Kevin at Birds Garages to do it for me. It's not actually that tricky, although you need some specialist tools to make the job easier. And obviously a lift.

The new-style welded diffs have no bolts as the crown wheel is welded directly to the diff casing. That is the bit that requires machining off.. Does that answer your question?

Good stuff Tony and very informative.
The Bird's site is an interesting read,I'll skip on the LSD mainly due to cost,but there was something that caught my eye,but it will have to wait until after Xmas now. |

I drove Tony's car on Sat and it was excellent, the amount of traction was awesome and it felt totally planted even with it pi**ing down
I then went out with James and it was very different, if James had the diff that car would be so much quicker as it will be able to put the power down (not that it wasnt bloody quick ) I think if you have a 335i put aside £2k and get the map and diff and you will love it

When i went out in it i didnt notice that at all. It not a rear geometry change, its just the diff. It improves the handling tenfold. The car should have come from the factory like this. It gives you much more confidence to keep the throtte buried out of bends!

technically Dave, you're spot on there is increased noise.
But with the 335i you can't hear it at all ! On a front wheeler, maybe, but with out engine and exhaust not a peep. SJ |
