SMG is simply a manual where the clutch operation and shifting is done by the computer.

no!!! there's one single clutch PLATE. but there's no clutch pedal. the computer operates the clutch pedal that you have no access to. it's still 1 clutch, it's a manual transmission setup (in a sense it has a dry clutch) BUT someone else is doing the shifting for you

what I was asking is not about the mechanical difference between smg vs step.
What I'm asking is if you drove 335 with STEPTRONIC and then 335 with SMG what would be the biggest differences? (when it comes to feeling how car drives) 1- will SMG (by it self) bump the gear up when you hit red line? etc 2- do you feel that gears are being changed while you are driving SMG equipped car I KNOW that there is no 335 with SMG but its only for comparison so we could have 2 same cars with only difference being transmission |

The SMG will not shift when you hit redline. The limited will kick in. Depends on the setting of the SMG, but you can get nice smooth shifts. However, there is a delay in power. Your head will bob forward like any other manual car. In S6 mode, your head bobs backward because the transmission is slammed into the next gear. Sort of equivalent to a power shift in a Manual (don't let off the gas). The Step is smooth as butter.
