just because the Z06 motor...the LS7 is 7 liters does not mean its a wide motor. With chevy smallblocks the dimensions do not change with different displacements. you probably could make it fit somehow.....that would be AWESOME.

+1, I was just trying to think of the craziest engine you could try to put in there, and the LS7 came to mind....

i wonder if the fmic or fmoc fromt he v8 will be a relatively easy retrofit into the 335i chassis?
what turbos are being used in the v8? |

If it's done via a larger bore, they would surely need a thicker cylinder wall, again unless they had a super thick wall in the 6.0 that allowed them to bore out the cylinders to 7.0 without sacrificing wall strength. Otherwise a thick wall and stronger supporting parts would be necessary making the engine's dimensions larger. And just because a 5.0 liter v10 would fit doesn't mean a 7.0 liter V8 would for those wondering. It would depend again on the angle of the "V" A 5.0 V10 has .5 liters per cylinder. A 7.0 V8 has .875 liters per cylinder. So the V8's cylinders have to be wider, longer, or both. More than likely they are both longer and wider in the 7.0 V8 Since it's the not the length (front bumper to firewall) that's the issue (since the I6 is surely longer than both the v10 and v8) again it's the height and width that's the issue. I would suspect the 7.0 V8 is wider than the 5.0 V10. But that would depend again on the angle of the "V" Having larger cylinders in the 7.0 V8 than the 5.0 V10 has, I'd imagine the V8 has a wider angle "V" and is therefore wider. |

Yeah, I'm sure with a bit of research it would be easy to find the dimensions of the v10 and other engines for comparos.
But again, without a gaping hood scoop/bulge and a low ground clearance I'm sure the new 4.4 TT would be too tall (and possibly to wide) to fit in a 3 series. Furthermore, I'd bet it weighs more than the 5.0 V10 as well. It would make the 3 series incredibly front heavy. It will surely fit in the 5 series and with the use of more aluminum in the front end of the 5 series, they could easily make it's weight distribution acceptable to BMW (52-53% out front max). I'm still curious to see how they are going to keep that engine cool with two turbos sitting in the valley of the "V" at the TOP of the engine. If this engine does make it into the 5 and 6 series (which has been the rumor for months) and replaces the 550i (which it likely will) and is priced not much higher than the outgoing 550i, it will be a solid car. As I guessed many months ago, I bet they call it the 555i |
