op thanks for taking the time to post, with diagrams.

has anyone done the AFE pipes only? (kept everything else stock)
If so, I'm interested in knowing if there's drone and if there's any noticeable power change. So far, haven't found anyone.
thanks

I have had my PE for 5 years, it's still awesome. Even on winter days I drive with my driver rear window up an inch or two and my sunroof cracked. It's damn satisfying.

I'm seriously considering a secondary cat delete with this to compliment my PE.

Sounds so awesome, but not for the price, and not for how loud it will be with headers.

But I don't have headers, nor are they part of my plan.

Damn, as usual I already pulled the trigger for SS midpipes to go with my PE and now I read this

So does this setup drones or not? I'm hearing contradicting opinions

delete your secondary cats + resonator and you got yourself a PE exhaust. the piping is just fancier and slightly larger in diameter, but otherwise the same

PE stands for performance exhaust.

AFE is the name of a company - Advanced Flow Engineering.

Can the PE be installed while still utilizing the secondary cats-or do they need to be removed?

PE does not delete secondary.

It replaces muffler and deletes resonator, which sits down the path from secondaries.

Alright, cool. Thank you. I want something that is more pronounced but still relatively subdued (if that makes sense) and not boy-racer.

That's the best tool investment you can make if working on exhausts. Those rubber hangers can be a real bitch without that tool.

i want to get section 1 pipes for my 328xi but i believe they need to be modified ? also i'm already running just a muffler delete. (wana keep stock headers for now) i also have the resonator in place. if i get the ss section 1 i should probably add a muffler? but what kind as to most axle backs are 500+ . im trying to reduce drone and improve in sound. I would like it to be more throaty. Loudness can remain the same those are my goals. TheAxiom

You have to decide what you want:

Off the shelf, you can run a system that is inclusive with a resonator like AA when you do the secondary delete

or

You can run your own resonator and muffler with custom piping. The custom route will usually be less expensive (Borla Xs is about $120 for a 3"in/out)

No matter what, I wouldn't be running a secondary delete without a muffler.
