Do you know what I was wondering whether this car was a forum car never thought to look TBH as its been mad crazy over these past few weeks o in detail unless I know the csr or its identified I would know

Indeed the car came into us she'll we say a little unwell. From the exhaust I was amazed to see the amount of water out the exhaust thst we saw, but we've seen this several times before so it didn't really phase us the isdue was time and getting everything in place as we had a couple of customers chopping/chancing dates I just thought did it cars here it was booked in for Friday with a suspected hydro fault(only suspected by harmeet and that was why the orgional booking was made with us)but while checking the engine out we discovered wheel speed sensor and strongly suspected hub damage at the centre of the problem but with time/cars coming in left, right and centre kind of not on our side we needed to react so harmeet a car was after aurgoristation was sought was wheeled in and the work was undertaken.

The EGR cooler had failed, the EGR cooler seals had let go, radiator on the bottom off side rear to centre was leaking(pressure test edc this as part of the diagnosis pre work and watched the result with our own eyes)the near side of the block was saturated in oil and I do mean saturated in oil, harmeet was sure swirl flaps had been removed as part of the cars EcoTune CAT delete set up but they weren't and 4 out of the 6 were leaking like nobody's business. The cars breather was shall we say dead the assembly was past saturation we examined the pipe from it this was contaminated with congealed oil as well so duty calls everything cleaned breather replaced but the brother looks like it had been there for years.

Car had dome glow plug faults(someone had been here before many moons ago hsrmeet-forgot to say but if you look at the invoice I supplied we replaced 5 glow plugs No3 I think was so so tight that this could well of broken in situ in the head if we'd attempted to remove it as this glow plug was performing admirably it was decided to leave well alone)but if this was damaged trust me it would of been a nightmare but to answer a question they've been changed before and therefore over tightened well over tightened.

Apart from that we also dealt with a leaking rack gaiters that smiled at us as the wheels were turned and there some other issues such as a bolt missing on the near side strut turret where coilovers had been fitted as harmeet had self installed we obviously couldn't leave the bolt off so this was sorted, technitions also made a verbal note re the front anti roll bar(I'll talk to you again about this tomorrow)and some other odds and ends but while we were there things were sorted as/when we encountered them.

As we didn't know or even drive the car pre work we could only see the result post work. We wanted and were mindful that harmeet had the misfortune of losing his car unexpectedly we have now for the next week and a half a non stop schedule of cars in/out plus recovery so we got his car back on the road and made it fit. Ideally of we'd had more time we could of sorted the DSC hub issue but I think harmeet needs to give the HSBC card a but if gas'n'air to aid recovery.

Next stop is say and we talked about this briefly on pickup though it was again getting busy would be a tranny service/oil change and some other bits and pieces.

Truth be told we'd of liked to of completed everything but if we'd of kept the car with our booking harmeet wouldn't of had his wheels until perhaps this time next week.

Main thing is harmeet back on the road we'll have the car back in I dare say to complete when he recovers from HSBC surgery but it would be nice especially with that power to get the gearbox ironed out. Re the power EcoTune 360/80bhp heard it did sound evil however noticed it smoked a little and I'm not sure if that's partly due to the last water residue being cleared or a characteristic of that DPF delete, but never drove it so honestly don't know anything re the drive but the main thing is it was safe.

And oddly enough considering the car pre work post work no harm done, which shows they'll take this sort of issue in their stride as long as like harmeet you react to it when it happens they live to fight another day.

Good meeting you by the way harmeet: but if I've got some time tomorrow I'll pick up the phone and we will gave a chat re how the car drives post work

My egr cooler cracked ! What an expensive day that was lol

One thing I noticed that my car hydro locked with the amount of water going through it , luckily it's not damaged any oil seals nor did it chuck a rod

One area im keen to look into is the breather ? I'm a 07 335d , I know on my old 03 x5 I had to change from the foam breather that clogs up , what's the script with these ? As it reads that's there's maby breather lines that clog up ? Would rather get them looked at before the adverse effects of crank pressure blows seals lol

old grey steve : Thanks for the detailed write up, saves me some trouble oh and its great to have my ac back
Missed you call yesterday, will try and call you back sometime tomorrow.

jackstrath best thing would be to contact Steve above as i honestly haven't got a clue about the breather and what is best. Good job the engine did not suffer any damage as that would be a right nightmare.

Long over due update

Decided to change the ditch finder tyres that came on the car when I bought it. After ending up going sideways down a slip road in rainy conditions without trying, I thought that's enough fun for now. Grip in the wet was shocking at the best of times and they were also the wrong size.
Got myself 4 new tyres that are the right sizes and the car is so much better now in wet and dry conditions.

Also managed to do a quick oil and filter change last week just to keep on top of the usual maintenance.

With the mot looming soon I though it would be a good idea to get the car ready for that and also ready for winter as once it starts getting colder the last thing I'm going to want to do is work on the car. First things first was to change the front discs and pads as the front discs were warped and causing some serious juddering under hard breaking. The Hand brake was pretty much useless and thought I might as well address this issue at the same time.

Box of new parts arrived ready to be fitted.

Front discs were pretty straight forward to remove and replace.

As the front discs were so easy to change the rears decided to be a pain.
The rear discs had a lip on the inside that was catching on the shoes. After lots of hammering and swearing they came of.

The old brake shoes

I've never fitted brake shoes before and got on ok despite the springs being a bit of a pain.

Decided to give the discs a lick of paint to stop them rusting like the old ones.

Whilst working on the car I decided to fit my new shortened drop links as my coilovers didn't come with any. Got them fitted but noticed the car is now making a nocking noise that seems to be from the drivers side I must say that having the drop links on has made a big difference to the way the car turns, so much more responsive. Can't wait to take it for a proper blast once the brakes have bedded in and that nocking has been sorted out.

Tomorrows jobs are to try and sort the nocking noise and adjust the handbrake shoes....
