I used the DashCommand app via a WiFi dongle to monitor engine parameters

Any idea why the fans cycle on start up??

No idea why specifically but it's common to see when the water pump is failing. For some reason the fans go on the fritz.

My water pump went out on me lass than a week of owning the car. No error codes until i was stranded on the side of the road. It's definitely water pump season. I just hit 50k miles when this happened also.

So I changed my waterpump and thermostat yesterday afternoon. For a job that seemed pretty easy (after researching it online), I would say it was a royal PIA. I'm not sure if it had to do with me being LCI, AWD and Automatic, but there was no room to do anything? The online video made it appear that there's a whole bunch of room to maneuver, but wasn't the case on my e92? Of course all the 6mm worm clamps were clocked in the wrong position - probably ideal when they were bolted to the motor during factory assembly? Then getting all the hoses to seat back on their outlets took all of muscling but finally got it done. Also had to access some worm clamps through the wheel well which I didn't see anyone state in a DIY

Good news is, no leaks so far (knock wood) and after sitting over night after a 30min drive, not one drop of coolant on the garage floor . Temps seem to be holding consistently at 216*F to 226*F - nothing over 230*F yet

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated!!

Garage List
Looks like 09's were not as immune as I thought. Mine failed at 82k on Monday night. I was about 6 miles away from home and on the freeway.

Watch out for oil housing gasket here too. At the oil housing gasket, you have coolant going through there, and once it starts going out, it can actually start pushing gasket debris along with some oil into your cooling system.

As someone else said, take it REALLY easy if you go into yellow because going red can easily jack up other parts of the engine (like the plastic coolant line connector coming off of the head).
