Looking at my own 134k mile engine I KNOW it has to be needing work ASAP.
Well just one thing to also keep in mind, seafoam really thins out your oil, so make sure you don't leave it for to long or it may cause bearing issues.. I'm sure there are other negatives to leaving it in for extended periods of time but just a heads up in case you didn't already know about that..

No worries, and thanks for the info just in case. You never know on any given person's knowledge base. I've run an entire can of Seafoam in my 183k Saturn SL crankcase for a few hundred miles with no ill effects, and with the same great results.

To your point, certainly 'X' amount of cleaner will dilute Y' amount of a given lubricant, but that same 'X' amount of cleaner won't continue to dilute 'Y+Z+...' amounts of lubricant like some people seem to think. In other words, running it longer doesn't have any potentially beneficial or harmful effects than running it a short time, it just won't have any added positive effects if left in that much longer. No cumulative effect, good or bad, in other words.

I am curious if any studies have been done to see what the effect of the re-liquefied sludge and residues has to potentially offset that lubrication dilution effect of the cleaner though.

All I know is, like you mentioned, using crankcase cleaners in high mileage cars has never been detrimental to how they run when I've used them according to directions. Always a nice benefit, which makes it well worth the money.

I like the point that you make about re-liquefying once sludged oil.. I'll contact black stone and see if they have any input on that..
