Wait, so in 100 years cars will be autonomous... So basically what they're doing now? And still using the chassis from current BMWs? Not a bunch of innovation happening in the next 100 years at BMW.

So disappointing...

I thought BMW was interested in design. You wouldn't know that by this waste-of-space exercise.

They teased an i8 front end a few days ago, where is an i8 with an s63tu mounted north-south and no rear seats, or an i8 with a B48 turned up to decent levels of power. That would be more interesting!

Guys, it's a concept, it's showing some pieces of certain design elements that's coming soon, like the kidneys.
And it's an idea how one (BMW) see the car in the future, but by that time, i'm sure there is nobody that's actually driving their car themselves.
Hence the steering wheel, which is a mere gimmick.
The 100'th anniversary are just starting, should be interesting imo.

Well lets see: first you wont see this car in yourlifetime (so pointless); second by the time this car is on the market all of this tech and conceptual ideas will have been surpassed (therefore pointless); third since this here wont influence any of the current, next or future generations i think again it makes it, well, you guessed it POINTLESS

Do you really think that BMW makes fuel pumps, injectors , ignition coils or water
Pumps ? Oh dear.

Let me see what they did back in the 80s.

Water pump - made by LASO
Injectors - BOSCH
ignition coils - perhaps BMW made plug wires
Fuel pump - BOSCH

Pretty sure that in the 2010s they still sublet the manufacturing of these parts. ...

It always sucks for companies like BMW when a part provider screws up a part - the parent company gets blamed for years by Joe Schmo on the Internet

Agreed that they don't make the parts themselves, but they (BMW) are still ultimately responsible for the higher-level product they're selling. Similarly, if people at Burger King got sick from burgers, it wouldn't be reasonable for them to blame their suppliers and take no responsibility.

Also, as somebody who works in a company that uses many custom, vendor-supplied parts, sometimes issues arise that were our fault. Bad design, bad material choice, etc. Not always, but it happens... I'm sure it's the same story at BMW or any company.

Agree with all.

The over arching point is that these issues are temporary issues, whether they be a design issue, or a supplier issue.

Absolutely the parent Corp typically has to accept responsibility in these situations and take on the issue and resolve complaints and make it right as much as possum and then if needed settle with their vendors on the back Side.

the Hpfp injector issue was mostly on the last generation e82 and e90 models and yet some still cling to/complain about issues that are likely long resolved or out of production.

This is the part I am saying is unfair.

I Hope to get an i3 next summer so still interested in the brand and always will be. The reason I am critical its because I am still interested in future bmw's. I traded my x3 for a macan but still prefer the size of the x3. If bmw do a nice job on next x3 I might just trade my macan for another x3. Since we know "bmw" has eyes and "ears" in these forums the more we "trol" the more we get in our future cars. Heck I am still waiting a thank you from x3/x4 owners for the gloss inserts on the air vents and new 7 ser owners for the gloss insert on the electric seats to name a few after "trolling" so much about these issues in here. Coincidence? I dont think so.

You can count on it. You can already see a resemblance in the G11, and I'm sure it will continue when we see the final G01 design.

I don't care who makes what for BMW, you buy a BMW for the brand, they need to have their stuff in check before letting garbage parts end up in mass produced cars.

Have you ever been stranded on a crazy interstate highway from a failed hpfp? Have you ever had your pregnant wife coast a 335 to the shoulder through traffic after it died on a route 95 during rush hour traffic? Have have you had your water pump fail at 17k miles 230 miles from home and have to pay out of pocket for hotel and accommodations? Maybe, maybe not, but I have and it sucks but I love these cars.

I've owned 3 e9x 335's, and every iteration of M3 from e36 on (except f8x) over the past 16 years. I don't consider myself a joe-shmo internet bum, I'm a life-long BMW customer and those issues bother the hell out of me. Believe me hpfp issues (along with coil pack issues and injectors) are alive and well in the f platform too, read up on it.

Meanwhile they're working on stuff like this, laser headlights and entertainment apps for the car. Smh
