Do you have an n54?

There should be some ticking but nothing like OPs. You gotta remember these cars have hydraulic lifters that do make some ticking sounds especially when the oil is cold.

Once I had this loud ticking noise out of no where and it ended up being a sticking boost solenoid, who would have thought. Every now and then I'll see a fellow n54er having the same sounds and it's always those damn solenoids lol

I can hear slight ticking on mine, but no where as loud as OP's video.

I'm sure the ticking on mine is the fuel injectors and valves operating normally.

Hoping to pick up the blown up engine this week and dig into it this weekend. I grab some more pics for sure.

A little ticking is normal injector noise.

But it's hard to capture in the video where the noise is coming from and if it's normal injector noises. It does seem rather loud in that video.

The injectors normally tick fairly loud but if you listen closely to each individual injector and find one louder then the others it usually means it's on the way out. I had 2 injectors that were easily louder then the others. I ended up replacing all 6 to make sure everything was fresh and new.

Anyway, I'm wondering how old your injectors were.

This was a 2009 with 49K miles so it had the original injectors. I am going to pull the old injectors out when I pick up my blown motor from the shop to part out.

My 10 at 47K had 2 injectors that were toast.

I'm hoping your new motor has new injectors?

I truly believe injectors on this platform are a pro-active maintenance. Every 40K I'd imagine is when they go for a modded vehicle. I'm sure stock they can go 75K-100K (Depending on the revision).

I am not sure, but I plan to replace them with index 12s once everything else is sorted regardless.

That looks like a spun rod bearing. If it were hydrolock I don't think you would've been able to drive it around for 6-7 months ticking like that.

My car ticks but not like that - Its at idle and goes away when RPM increases ... I also switched to Liqui Moly 5w-30 and the hydraulic lift tick (Really Loud one) went away .. Also put in CeraTec Liqui Moly additive, I think it helps little .. all Liqui Moly stuff's at Napa btw

I see you got Meth ? What were you IATs before it exploded

I am wanting to bet that he had a leaky injector. Mix that with the oil = almost zero lubricant. Boom goes the bearings.

When it exploded, I was in vac. But, my last logs showed IAT's at near ambient (90s) when spraying. Car is all back together now so I need to tinker and update the firmware and MHD file. Also just started to run liqui moly 5w30.

Hopefully I will have this sorted in the next couple weeks. Off to the body shop next week since a guy backed into the fender and headlight and drove off when my car was parked post engine detonation.
