8k vs. more performance for 1,300 via the 2.1 V2 from Vishnu? Thanks but no thanks, that is an expensive ass warranty I'd just spring the extra 13k for the m3 rather than 8k for dinan upgraded 335 which gains no value over a stock 335... At least the m3 you get your money back when you go to sell and you get a much cooler Badge than the DINAN one.

$2,000 for Stage I Dinan flash compares close enough to $1,300 Procede V2.

I don't bash every Dinan thread, actually, please send a link evidencing your bubbly claim. I just look at value. I think someone would have to be nuts to spend 8k in mods unless it makes you beat Vipers when you are through. If that is no the plan, why not spend a few more thousand and get the m3 which is what your probably really want if you are trying to have a warranty backed 400+ hp...

I would rather spend $899 SHIPPED on the BMS Downpipes, JBX and BMS Intake and get the same power at the wheels for 1/9 the price. That seems pretty factual and unemotional to me. I think the emotional buyer spends 8k for a badge. www.burgertuning.com

If the question is "how do I upgrade performance for the lowest price", your facts have merit and are useful. Some of us, however, might find value in things like a dinan badge, or an Audi R8, or an undrivable, modified Viper with 900 hp, or a Porsche GT3. Who cares if people with some money want to spend it on something a little extravagant?

Hey, if you want to throw money back into the economy via frivolous spending, more power to you, I'm 26 and planning to retire by 35 (i.e. get out of business and become an economics professor) so that isn't part of my game plan. I am confident that G. W. Bush would be glad to hear you are looking to fatten Dinan's pockets though, maybe this 8k tune is part of his economic stimulus package (make the rich, richer and the poor, poorer as no one will save).

It is also pretty factual that you are taking a risk here. If you add all of those products to your car, and perhaps something happens to your engine/turbos and the BMW rep. that comes to examine your car in the PUMA case deems that the problem was caused by your mods (which may or may not be the ultimate truth). Then, you are paying thousands of dollars out of your pocket for getting your car repaired. Then, you add together all the time without your car and the time dealing with your car repair and how much value can be attributed to the time?

Is this a likely scenario? Probably not. I am just not the type of person to take the risk.

ybiz - I was about to say the same thing. Basically, as we get older, maybe we learn to "insure things that we cannot afford to replace", and visa-versa - don't insure what you can afford to replace. I will happily pay the $1000 premium for Dinan, so that, on the < 10% chance, that something in my engine explodes, I am not stuck with an $8K repair bill.

Plus, since I love to add to the nation's commerce by trading cars every 18 months, the guy who buys my current ride will get the warranty also.

Retire when you are 35?? Wow. When I was 35, I had just finished my medical training and was getting started (and I went straight through)! Way to go dude! :-)

To be honest, I AM trying to create a pseudo-M3 - but with AWD. But, alas, no matter what I do, the 335 straight 6 TT will never be quite like the M3 V8.

Later dudes (and stillclaim). I am going to a movie with my teenagers. We are all sneaking little baggies of M&Ms (taken from the huge bag we got at Sam's club) into the theater so we don't have to pay consession prices. Now, there's value. If I keep doing this, I'll really be able to afford some more expensive Dinan mods (not to mention college).

The only arguments that are ever made about Dinan are financial ones. If you look at the technical side of the tunes then the competition is not looking so good. Based on the technical merits of the JB2 and SSTT I wouldn’t install them if you paid me 2000.00 but that just my opinion so it really doesn’t matter what I say. There are many here that see past the BS so your augments are typically foolish in this respect. In the end if you don’t like the price then don’t buy it. If you feel that tunes are safe then go for it but there is no point in preaching that it is when there is supporting technical merit that it isn’t and no one has to prove this either. You as consumer need to prove the technical merits as no one will give a dam what you do. There is enough information about each tune here for one to make up there own mind wrong or right and it just the nature of the beast most people here ignore or don’t understand real information.

So arguments is cost to much….okay that fine move on…we don’t care and you stated your opinion which is fine.

It's painfully obvious you don't see any value in the Dinan warranty, but there are many customers who think the extra cost is justified. There still exists a network of respected BMW dealerships that have close tie-ins with Dinan and will work with them to make any warranty claim seamless. That peace of mind is part of what the Dinan customer is paying for.

If you're planning on going the BMS super-sized happy meal route, more power to you, but you take the risk of nothing going wrong with your car's engine, transmission, suspension, or rear end (Didn't someone blow up a rear end with a juicebox recently?) BMW could refuse a warranty claim on ANY of those systems if they find evidence of extensive mods. You either need a really good relationship with your local BMW service manager - and I'm not denying that there are a few of them out there that would be okay with minor mods - or you'll have to remove your intake, resistor box and swap your downpipes back for your stockers should the need arise to make a factory warranty claim for a major repair.

Cumulative response:

You can buy a 335i for 35-39k with 10,000 miles on it at this point. Dinan's intercooler/exhaust/tune package is 8k cost for 2-3k worth of parts to retain a warranty for a 35k car; does that make sense?

Say you buy a non warranted tune, and in the <1% chance (yeah there are 2,000+ cars running tunes and 0 blown motors) that you have a problem, remove it, and you have a warranty and can sell the tune for 50% of it's original cost ($400 in the case of jbx).

Regardless, I'm not trying to sway the decisions of anyone other than those who aren't sure what to buy and don't know there are imo better tuning options out there.

Dinan parts are like the Gruppe M intake. Poor bang for the buck. It's like putting your 401k in a 1% fixed income and losing to inflation, a safe investment that yields poor performance overall.

I think a better question is why not considering that Dinan was going to put it's sticker on the PROcede and sell it until their flash came out...?
