I never use them on my 09. like mentioned earlier 09/10 work as pull is upshift and push is downshift. both paddles work the same way.

Mine came with left -, right + Think only available '11 may be wrong. i find that i use the paddles for a quick down shift to over take, or after accelerating from a stop to just jump up shift into 5th/6th. and am always in D, not Manual Mode. I do notice that i always drive with my hands on 9 & 3 bc of the paddles.

also when autox-ing though you dont typically shift much, but say if you do I found using the gear shift knob is easier since that is fixed. if you have to turn the wheel more than 180deg you will lose track of where the paddles are since you probably have adjusted your hands.
