How would you know this?

Well why do you think BMW designed each pipe to move away from the diff? It is not a good idea to heat it up more than it already is... It will be affected mostly if you drive in traffic, the diff will just sit there and cook from the pipes being so close IMO...

did you ever think cuse it makes it easier to acess the axle bolts when removing the axle from the car?

heat problems with a diff...gimme a break.....everyone is scared like something is going to happen..you dont see redline 24/7 everytime you drive the car....so I wouldnt be concerned with heat.

Think about it..the diff sitting in traffic cools down because its not moving. But if it does get heated by the pipes, so what.

When its moving, the heat from the pipes wont affect it..but it will be getting hot internally from driving....so which difference does it even make??

I never said the diff would break or that the added heat would cause any problems, please show me somewhere i said that this will cause your diff to explode... All i have said is that i think that the added heat on the diff is not a good idea when an exhaust manufacturer could follow the lines set by bmw... I mean why does the M Diff have such a big heat sink on it? to help cool it down maybe?

M diff is a clutch LSD that can create more heat. And not everything on a car is necessary or even remotely needed.

Why do YOU think they have fins and we don't.

From internal heat generation through direct frictional generation. The air gaps provide plenty of insulation. Remember, air is a great insulator.

So let me get this straight, you are all saying that adding extra unnecessary heat to the Diff is completely fine and will not cause any extra wear to the internals? Also can you back this up with more than speculation?

No, cannot back it up but years of experience with heat transfer systems should provide some insight.

There is way more heat generated by the frictional losses internally than an exhaust at idle that is an inch or two away.

Im not saying that you are right or that i am wrong, i am just saying that adding heat isnt good... Why not just make the pipes go around the diff? Whats the disadvantages of putting a mendrel bend there like BMW did? It could only help right?

Potentially, but that was not my focus as I will probably stay with the stock exhaust (my twin daughters perfer to listen to music rather than the exhaust as I drift ). My point was that I suspect there would be no discernable internal differential temperature increase with those pipes. As I said earlier, air does insulate well.
