I took the car out for a drive last night and the throttle response SUCKS and the turbo lag is VERY noticeable. I'm pretty disappointed about that.

Can someone here PLEASE tell me that the car will adapt and the turbo lag will get better!!! I did some WOT pulls in 2nd and 3rd gear...I'll keep driving the car hard in hopes that it works itself out
Sorry to tell you man, it doesn't get much better. Still 2 to 3x the lag the car used to have. It's a standard turbo car now, and you KNOW it when driving it.
Another huge Booo to BMW. I wrote them and complained and got a standard "Sorry you do not like your program. We can not help you any further." Gee, thanks.

I agree..

For those who say its slower, its not true. The car has the same power obviously. Drive the two types of cars side by side and you will see what I am talking about.

If you got a problem with 29.2, disconnect your battery for a few minutes, reconnect it and drive the PISS out of it. (Oil temps above 250). The car will adapt very nicely.

Although I am curious about the new Progman and whether its true or not, and what it has to offer.

+1

Also, my car's a late May build, should be arriving end of June. I want to know what version I'm most likely going to have?

What were you symptoms? I have about 23k on my ride. I've felt a slight hesitation on WOT at times and now seem to be idling rough. Never have a problem starting the car though.

Pretty sure Chiv would know how to spell Vishnu...

Actually, the 27.x car will jump ahead, then they may stay even at that separated distance. Lag will cause the intial fall-behind for 29.2

The can can not adapt in a way that it ignore the new wastegate duty cycles built in for enchanced emissions complaince! It is a PHYSICAL change to how the car is running, not an electronic one. This is not just fuel trim, boost level, etc etc, this is the wastegates phsically being open longer and more often under no/low load.

My car's symptoms were not at WOT. Rather, the car hesitated right after start-up like it was going to stall, (but then evened out almost immediately). About 3 days in a row it was getting worse...My dealership is very close to my office, so I just took it in for the hell of it to have them check it out.

Actually the hesitation issue seems smoother now with 29.2, sort of (less herky-jerky in 1st gear under partial throttle). My car is bone stock.

But as someone else previously reported, the turbo lag is about 3 times worse than before - much more noticeable lag. I barely noticed any lag before. But now it sucks and is not the same car as before. I drove the hell out of it today and the temps seem hotter, too. Crap crap crap I'm really disappointed about it.

I have been in a love affair with my car since I first got it. My lease is up in October and I was really looking forward to ordering a 2009 model next month or so. But, now I dont know if I will...my car now sucks on 29.2. If the 2009 drives like my car on 29.2, I dont want one.

I agree the power is the same. But the lag is much worse in my opinion. I'm definately no expert on this stuff, but I also dont think that is just in my head.

Thansk for the info...that's what I was afraid of. I'm going to complain to my SA and CA next week and tell him that 29.2 has REALLY diminished my desire to order a 2009 model.

I wonder if they would help me get progman 30 asap?

Shiv has mentioned that the new turbo lag is from wastegate duty during cruise/low load conditions which has been lowered to 15-20% instead of 40-50% as with earlier ECU software versions.... its also the same reason for the lower exhaust note.

Exactly. This is the reason why resetting the ECU with a battery disconnect won't change anything. It's shocking that BMW would degrade the performance of the car in this way. I absolutely LOVE this car just like it is and wouldn't give it up for anything, but if this isn't resolved by the time I have to go in to the dealer I swear to God I'm gonna trade for a Z06, which would just make me cry

Frankly I think there is probably something illegal about selling a car with one performance level, then changing it so drastically and expecting owners to just bend over and take it...

This is also the reason some of us hear metallic clanging noises around 3k rpm. Not loud, but noticeable with the windows down driving by walls.

My car seems jerky only when i have the ac on, going from 1st to 2nd partial throttle. My car does not have the 29.2.

For those of you that got the update and it has lowered performance below the advertised levels and that was a major determining factor in your decision to buy. The 2007 yamahas were advertised to have an very high redline, it5 was a major part of the ad campaign. After the model was released and independently tested it turned out the redline was lower than advertised. Yamaha had to do a lot of damage control including buying back the motorcycles of people that had bought the bike with the advertised expectation. I realize it is not the exact situation, but if a car was bought and then the builder made it less of a car.....seems fishy. Does anyone know if maybe progman 29.2 does this downgrade to save BMW from having to replace more HPFPs and turbos?

I think so honestly. I had a wastegate ticking noise and replacing the actuators didnt help. They checked the turbos and it was perfectly fine. But wastegate valve inside turbocharger manifold is rattling. They decided to change the turbos finally. Both of them.

Would love to hear some more info actually pertaining to this supposed V30.0. Not much solid info so far, except for the OP's speculation, it seems.

I only threw the yamaha example out as something that was different after you bought it. I dont expect BMW to buy back cars because of progman.
I am also very curious to know when they will begin installing the 30 version. I have to take my car in but dont want to get the dreaded 29.2 so i am holding out in hopes that the new version will be better...and soon.

Some of you may recall the Mustang hp issue a few years back. I can't remember the specifics but it revolved around inflated ho numbers.
