Basically, one of them (BMW or Dinan) is going to pay for it right now. After the customer is on his way, they will decide who ends up with the bill ultimately. That is IF that happens at all. It really isn't the soap opera that it is made out to be. That's bad for business. |

Maybe not so much in this particular case since it should fairly obviously be a Dinan claim since it was bricked while loading their software but on something like a transmission failure where there could be some gray area it might get interesting. |

well if the dealer was servicing your car and it is bricked. Since the BMW PA was loading it. easy enough the dealer broke it; they loan you a new car; they fix it.
seems pretty straight forward to me. this is why you pay a little more to have the dinan dealer handle it. or you can save $200 and have a 3rd party do it and pray for service

He has been driving a 535 loaner all week. A Dinan rep made a visit and ok'ed the repair. So Dinan is paying for the ECU.

I think it was "Andy's Law" that chip power doubles every year, and prices decline by half. I haven't followed this for two days, and the world has turned over again. I think the last flop (flap) was about three days before that.
This is even quicker than the car is. |

Long time reader, 1st time poster here on E90 post...
Back in mid-May, I got the Stage II Dinan flash on my E90 6MT (has a Feb build date, so no 29.2) at my local Dinan dealer. 2-3 days later, the car went into limp mode accelerating at moderate throttle. Shut it down and it fired up with an extremely rough idle. Had it towed to nearest BMW dealer who diagnosed the problem--fault codes indicated the part of the DME that controls the fuel delivery for cyls 4,5,6 was shot. Told the BMW dealer who did the repairs (was on a road trip, I didn't purchase the car or flash from them) that I had a Dinan flash. They called Dinan, who told them to reference bulletin 12 02 08--essentially stating that this was a BMW problem. Comparing the service notes to that bulletin, it doesn't look like this solved the problem, which lead them to replace the DME (and not at my expense). Luckily got another MS80 unit from BMW. The OP makes me wonder if it really was a BMW issue, or if the Dinan flash played a role in killing my ECU, especially since I could not find any other stock N54 owners whose DME mysteriously shit the bed like mine, but a Dinan flash has now bricked a DME... |

So can anything else in the car connected to the DME. Once the software is ON and functioning though, its not going to do any harm to the DME. More likely is was just a faulty unit. |

Back on topic, last week I had the Stage 2 flash uploaded into my car running 29.2 at my Dinan delaer. Seems to be a little down on power from the Stage 2 tune I was running pre-29.2--maybe some parameters of 29.2 are limiting the boost and/or torque as I've read elsewhere? Also, lag is somewhat improved over 29.2 stock, but if memory serves, still not lag-free like pre-29.2 stock or Stage 2 running on pre-29.2. Hope BMW does indeed drop an improved progman soon, 29.2 is the pits, lagging boost and neutering tunes. |

It's not like a piggyback were it is just using offsets on the factory tune. |
