sorry about noob question, but how can you tell whether you got v80.0 DME or v81.0?
i did search and only dealer can tell whether you got 29.2 or not. but couldn't find any info on how to tell what DME... mine is mar 08 build so it could be either one. thinking about dinan seriously cuz of damn turbo lag. it's definately there... |

FWIW there's quite a bit less lag at 4000 rpm. |

I seriously doubt that. If that was true, and therefore they've intentionally now detuned them, then wouldn't they have to revise their marketing materials and 0-100 km/h time claims?

I have a MSD81 DME and I do not have this lag people talk about.
Drives just like any other pre 29.2 MSD80 car.

Open up your ECU box and there will be a sticker that identifies it as such.

Been running for 1200 miles now at 11.3 PSI, NO codes, NO limps and its been 96*F here lately with 91 octane. On the street, it is so far faster than an MSD80 PRE 29.2 car with another "tune".

I took the delivery of my car yesterday, black sapphire metallic 335i sedan with auto transmission. I think it does have the new DME81 (the car was delivered to the dealer on Saturday).
This is my first turbo car and don't really know much about the "lag" you guys are talking about. But when I push the gas at about 2K rpm in "D", the car takes about a second (or maybe less) to launch. It's almost like any other V6 car taking time to downshift when you push on the gas hard. If this is what you guys mean by "lag", then I definitely have it ![]() |

You probably wouldn't even notice unless you have driven the car with an older software version. It becomes very apparent when you are used to instantaneous reaction. A good test is to go 30 mph in manual mode in 3rd gear (< 2000 rpm) and step on it (without kickdown). With v29.2 or v30, the car accelerates a bit and after a short second, you notice a second push from the turbos that kick in. |

Well, their claimed 0-100 km/h times have been conservative from the start (0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds)..

I hope that the next Dinan Stage 2 release resolves this, once it comes out for the MSD v81.0 DME. |
